    3. Thanks you ole granny and thanks to everyone for all the happiness sent my way. I sure hope next year is better for all of us. Thanksgiving is right around the corner so we all have that to keep us busy. I still have about half of my pine-applee-downside-up cake left to pick at. Want it to last as long as possible....a bite here, a bite there, nibble nibble, then lick the plate! Have somewhat of a container garden going. We'll just see how it Does go...I have high hopes. 2. My oldest son { Michael } was a computer programmer at the Pentagon when he was in the Army, and was pushed into learning one computer type after the other , had an unhappy marriage with a wife who hated living in DC , and eventually had what we used to call a nervous breakdown...He blamed his family for some reason and it took him years to get all this straightened out..He had lived in Vegas for many years but recently moved back to S Ill. where he grew up and reconciled with his wife....We keep in touch occasionally on the computer or phone, but don't visit. They have no children, and probably won't. His Dad , my first husband, is deceased... Buzz's Dad is dead , and he's no blood kin to us, but he belongs to Younger son's ex wife so we claim him...He never gets to see his Davis Grandmother, who lives in KY...His maternal Grandparents are deceased. So we're really all he knows as grandparents...He says this will be his house when we go to Heaven, so I guess he's in it for the long haul! Although, he did tell me he wants me to live forever...That's such a long time, and I won't know anyone except Buzz....*grin* I love it when I see Paula's name on an e mail..I know I'll soon be laughing....Wish she'd write more often...I'm still thinking about that tussle she had with her dogs and that alligator.....I told her let me know next time and I'd buy a ticket! Don't think I'd ever live that close to alligators...OR hurricanes ! 3. Jeannie T., You have lead a very interesting life, indeed. I bet you could put together quite a book. Does your oldest son live quite a distance from you? So that's why you don't see him that much? Is your oldest son married & have children? I always wondered about Buzz..so it sounds like you are pretty special people in their lives. Does he ever get to see his real daddy or is he somewhere else? I know I'm asking plenty of questions, but I have been reading everyone's e-mails for so long that I feel like I know many of you. We were never fortunate enough to have children, so many times I live vicariously through other people's Grandchildren & children. Paula is quite a gal. I enjoy when she writes about something b/c she can say things better than I ever could. And she makes me laugh. Especially with that run around with the gator & her two dogs. I could tell you the same story & it wouldn't be half as good as how Paula would tell it. She's a very nice lady & deserves to have a good life. Well, I guess I better go & check my laundry. I have to get up for church tomorrow. We are also going to church tomorrow night b/c we are going to see a video that David Barton narrated & I really enjoy that man so much. I kind of kept it as a surprise...but my husband said he was more than willing to go. Normally he likes to stay at home in front of TV. Take care & have a lovely Sunday. ~Jen in AZ ----- Original Message ----- From: <askgranny@juno.com> To: <southern-chat@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 25, 2010 10:07 PM Subject: Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] Jeannies life > The flooding in Nashville was terrible, and somewhat uncalled for..The > Corps of Engineers opened a dam they shouldn't have without warning > anyone, and people were caught flatfooted, so to speak. 2. Hubby is an entertainer...Almost completely retired now. Always part time because he put his family before his music...He plays lead guitar in the thumb style invented by his cousin Merle Travis, he sings, does comedy and wrote his first record. He did TV shows, a ton of radio, State Fairs,etc...made records, tapes, did Country Music shows with famous entertainers....like Dolly Parton, Bill Anderson, etc. etc. etc. He's retired now, but is planning to do one more show in KY where his folks live. His biggest drawback is not having anyone to play along with ...Me ? I can play the radio if I concentrate, but my Mom used to perform at Play Parties when she was young, and won several prizes...HER Mom played folk guitar..like Mom...Daddy couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, Mama said..so I guess that's another curse I inherited..along with several serious medical things... Son taught himself to play guitar, and has a really good singing voice, but not the fire necessary to be an entertainer.......Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Thu, 23 Sep 2010 23:00:03 -0700 "Jen LaBonte" <AZJen@npgcable.com> writes: > Well, that's interesting. 3. Wow!! I'm really impressed, Jeannie T.!! Didn't know your hubby did all those things. I had an Uncle who went to Hollywood to make it big..but he never did. Kind of sad b/c he really had high hopes. He died on a MGM lot while making a movie. My parents happened to be out there at that time & were contacted to come & get his body off the set. His wife, a beautiful gal, was a retired Zigfield Folley gal, had become a recluse over the years, so my parents were pretty much in charge of everything. Johnny didn't have to make a choice between his career & a family, b/c he & Dian never had any children. Dian was quite a bit older than he was, so we thought that might have something to do with it. How did you folks feel about all that flooding in Nashville? Especially the Grand Ole Oprey? That was so sad. I had been down there years ago during FanFair Week & we had taken a tour throughout the whole area. I just hope that the folks were able to get it back to what it used to be. We did attend a show at the Grand Ole Oprey. My husband seemed to know all the entertainers. However, he had listened to them on the radio while he was growing up. I know I am nosey, Jeannie T., but how many children do you have? I hear you talk about your son so much...but I'm sure there have to be more. I love your stories when you talk about your home in TN. You have a real gift when it comes to writing. I don't know whether you or *Paula* make me laugh the most. Actually, you make me laugh in a different way...so there is no comparison. Take care & have a great weekend!! We are going to some sort of Heritage Series at a church on Sunday night...the film is being documented by a guy with the last name of Barton. My mind is a blank when it comes to his first name. I just know I really enjoy him & am looking forward to hearing what he has to say about our Constitution. ~Jen in AZ ----- Original Message ----- From: <askgranny@juno.com> To: <southern-chat@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 24, 2010 9:39 PM Subject: Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] Charlie Louvin fans ? > Hubby is an entertainer...Almost completely retired now. 3. Oh you ole granny...... you know I am a mess and I'm sure some good entertainment for the neighbors. This apartment complex is next door to an assisted living facility (a really nice one too) which has three floors. One day I was out walking Goober and one of the elderly ladies from facility was taking a stroll. She stopped me to tell me she can "see" me from her third floor apartment. I swear I was afraid to ask exactly what does she see!! And one old guy and his dog will just come to a dead (no pun intended) stop when they see me. don't care how far away from them I may be, he will wait until I'm out of sight or have gone in before he goes about his way. Wonder are they waiting for the show to begin??!!! hehehaw..... If I could only convince my sister to move in here people would really be in for it. She reminds me of "Wheezer" in Steel Magnolias with way less clothes. I thought with those fire ants if I wore boots I'd be safe.....forget about it!! those ants must have little suction cups on their dirty little ant feet cuz they can go up the outside and down the inside in one kazillionth of a second!! And that's why one of my boots ended up in the pond...... time for java..... xoxoxox ~~~* ) ----- Original Message ----- From: askgranny@juno.com To: southern-chat@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, September 24, 2010 12:58:57 AM Subject: Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] the gator in the pond fiasco LOL ! 2. Hubby and I wondered about him making a new record...His voice has been very gravelly for years...Oddly enough, he's singing a kind of reminiscing song that fits it. His band backed hubby in a stage show many years ago. At the time I was told he was a smart aleck..but hubby said he wasn't as bad as his late brother, so that's a plus, I guess!
