    2. Glad to hear Publix is reasonably priced...They tore down our old hospital and are busily putting in a Publix and other stores. Bad part about it, they built the new hospital across town, so instead of taking 15 minutes to drive there we figure on 30 or 45....Figures....Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Mon, 13 Dec 2010 12:33:04 +0000 (UTC) *paula* <freckletoes@comcast.net> writes: . 3. You are lucky to have such nice friends. When we lived back in IL, the grocery stores always had boxes up near Customer Service. Everyone left coupons there & then you could pick up those which you might want in exchange for what you left. It was on an honor system..but no one really seemed to have problems with it. I have noticed at our library lately, they have the same thing. ~Jen ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ladonna Pipkin" <fromtheghetto@rocketmail.com> To: <southern-chat@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 12, 2010 11:34 PM Subject: Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] PRICE ALERT JEN IF I SEE THEM I CLIP THEM. 1. Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] WallyWorld?????
    2. Jen LaBonte
    3. Stella, Wally World is just a slang term for Wal-Mart. I will agree with you regarding most of their products. I refuse to buy many of them b/c they are imported from places...in some cases, I wouldn't even travel there myself. Paul bought grapes one time over there & after he ate a few he threw them in the garbage. He said they tasted like someone had walked over them with dirty feet (I don't know how he would know that b/c we don't eat things like that here). Any way, he looked at the bag & it said, 'Grown in Mexico.' And yes, many of their items have gotten more expensive than they are in other stores. We have 2 grocery stores here in town..Wal-Mart (Super Wal-Mart), Safeway & Basha's..which is a local store. I'm glad I quit drinking coffee some time ago b/c it has gotten so expensive. I quit it b/c the coffee in the hospitals & nursing homes I was in was just terrible!! I would rather have tea. And that I drink quite a bit of. We are putting away really big jugs of AZ Green Tea. When we drink the tea up, then we are storing water in the jugs. You have to put in Clorox before you seal them up. Cell phones are fine...but we don't have much connection around here b/c we are surrounded by mountains & canyons. The walkie talkies you can talk to one another throughout the town. We have a friend who went to Wal-Mart with his wife & they walked around the store talking to each other & never had any bad connections. Our Wal-Mart is a Super Wal-Mart & they were quite a distance from one another. We have walkie talkies..but we seldom can contact each other if one of us is in the other side of the house. Hope you got a good night's sleep. I'm going to be finishing up shortly. Want to read a bit before I head towards bed. Paul says I can read in bed...but I know I couldn't sleep if he had the lights on...so I will probably sit in our family room & read. ~Jen ----- Original Message ----- From: "busbys martins" <busmar1852@webtv.net> To: <Southern-Chat@rootsweb.net> Sent: Sunday, December 12, 2010 6:10 PM Subject: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] WallyWorld????? > Are ya'll referring to WALMART? 3. Friends on Southern-Chat, Well, I'm afraid I'm not really up on the prices, except for what I see in the paper. I do know, however, that they are going up & it doesn't take a genius to figure that out. We have put away quite a bit of canned goods. We are still needing more things. I tell Paul this & he sometimes doesn't really agree. Then I have to tell him, "We are going out together & shop & get all these things which we should have long ago!" Now I know that many of these items we would have saved on if we had just bought them some time ago. My biggest problem is that I cannot get out & about like I used to b/c of this knee replacement. I have rehab on Monday & depending on how I'm doing, we may take a ride to Wally World. Their prices have really been going up too. I still cannot get over all the folks buying like crazy in there. And most of the stuff they buy is just 'junk'. I'm not referring to food...just 'junk' that's all. I guess they have a steady paycheck coming in that they can rely on. We are on a fixed income & have to watch our pennies carefully. If I left it all up to Paul...well, I do for most of the shopping, but he goes with a list. He's an impulsive buyer & I know he would come home with a lot of 'junk' too. Like you, Paula, we have a number of cases of soup. Paul liked the Prego Sauce, so we have that too. I'm not too sure I would care for that cold...especially if we don't have a way to heat it. Normally we live on chicken broth during the winter. It always is nice to make a chicken broth soup. I guess I better see if they have chicken on sale this coming week. I think we will have room for more chicken noodle soup for our freezer. Next on the list are walkie talkies. I'm very determined to get those up here. We are in such an isolated area. Even though all the ham operators have come forth, I cannot see that helping us. It used to be you could buy a decent pair of walkie talkies at Radio Shack from $45-$50. I wouldn't doubt that they have gone up by now!! Paul had sent for some information on solar generators. Turned out they wanted between $4000-$5000 for the generator & in the long run, it simply wasn't worth it. Also, we just didn't have that kind of money to lay out on a generator. To buy a regular one is expensive enough. Paul used to rent them back in IL when our power went out for long periods of time. Our neighbor would see we had it, so they would split the price with us so they could hook into it as well. I'll never forget coming home one day after he had the rented generator up & running & here he was sitting in our family room watching TV. I asked him what was going to happen to all the things in our refrigerator/freezer since he was using the generator to give power to his TV? I think he felt a bit foolish, b/c it never dawn on him to hook it up to our refrigerator/freezer. ~Jen in Payson, AZ ----- Original Message ----- From: "*paula*" <freckletoes@comcast.net> To: <southern-chat@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 12, 2010 9:10 AM Subject: Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] PRICE ALERT > LaDonna..... you must have read my mind! 3. Hello Chatters!!! Yep....I re-subscribed.....hope I can find time to read and post. LaDonna...I see the prices here, at my Winn Dixie Supermarket. Yet...those foolish people say we don't need an icrease on our SSchecks now, for two years! They say noinfationary costs! Crazy folks! Even my medicine costs more. My brand of coffee went from 2.99 to 4.39.May now be 4.99. I have a lot of canned foods saved back....and in my freezer I put coffee, whenever it is on sale. Most bags are cut to 11 ozs. too.I notived dog food bags cut by 2.5 lbs. too. We have to live till we die...so just look 'UP' for our salvation. Sure can't depend on the countrry's leaders. Ya'll stay warm, and Jen keep up your exercize...it reallytakes it to get your knee back to normal. Stella
