    3. Belle & Judy , I feel for all that are barely making it and those that aren't able to make it on their own . I pray for them and thank God for what I do have . I'm not rich and don't think I ever will be .But what little I do have to share with others I share .I don't know about where ya'all live ,Belle in NV. I know . Here's what bothers me we have more families homeless and some folks have a home either renting or own or share but they have to get their groceries from the Food Bank or somplace like that . But according to the econimists in WA. DC we aren't in a recession or heading for a depression . I think they mean they aren't bothered by one .I'm not that lucky everytime I buy groceries I feel it,I'm thankful that I can still buy my groceries ,I just wish the prices would quit going up ! Lawmakers from California to Kentucky are trying to save money with a drastic and potentially dangerous budget-cutting proposal: releasing tens of thousands of convicts from prison, including drug addicts, thieves and even violent criminals. Officials acknowledge that the idea carries risks, but they say they have no choice because of huge budget gaps brought on by the slumping economy... ...Kentucky spends more than $18,600 to house one inmate for a year, or roughly $51 a day. In California, each inmate costs an average of $46,104 to inca rcerate. The prison budget in Mississippi has nearly tripled since stricter sentencing laws took effect in 1994... ---------------------- Hmmm...for some reason the people who have 'gone to college', hold powerful offices, and make decisions that can affect millions of people, can't seem to pull their heads out of their asses long eough to see it's simply a problem of *SPENDING*. The state governments spend $18,000 and up on a friggin disease to society (drug dealer, ect), yet I seem to somehow survive each month on $750 disability...that's my total, complete income *per month*. That means I have to *live* (pay rent, buy food, buy gas, buy clothes, pay $260 for car insurance/year, and pay $100/year for my crappy dial-up internet) on $9000 a year...but thanks to liberal scumbags like the ACLU ad nauseum, these blights to society get more than too many *d ecent, law-abiding citizens*! If the morons in the positions of making those kinds of decisions would simply put every single prisoner on the same cost-of-living *I* have to live on, their problem would be solved. As I've always said from experience...the people with all the funny leters after their name and the huge IQ's, haven't got a fly turd size of plain common sense. -- Those who decide to 'mind their own business' when they see a 'Bad Thing®' happening, are those that assist in the downfall of law and order and thusly the downfall of their country. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SOUTHERN-CHAT-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? In CA. they are used to fight the forest fires and sometimes to clean the highways .The state pays them a pentince and it gets them outside for a time .They are trained before they fight any fires and they have to have good behavior . Then there is that sheriff Hagee in AZ. I think ? He even has them living in tents wearing pink and eating bulogna sandwiches,I'm not sure about the work though . Linda leaving for home on TUES. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer prize. 5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress. 6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners. How did you do? The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners. Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one -- 1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school. 2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time. 3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile. 4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special. 5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with. 6. Name half a dozen heroes whose stories have inspired you. Easier? 1. [SOUTHERN-CHAT] The Clothesline
    2. Stella Roper
    3. The clothesline was a dead give away. Do the kids today even know what a clothes line is? For all of us who are older, this will bring back the memories.   THE BASIC RULES  1. You had to wash the clothes line before hanging any clothes. Walk the length of each line with a damp cloth around the line. 2. You had to hang the clothes in a certain order and always hang whites with whites and hang them first.   3. You never hung a shirt by the shoulders, always by the tail. What would the neighbors think?   4. Wash day on a Monday ... never hang clothes on the weekend or Sunday for heaven's sake!   5. Hang the sheets and towels on the outside lines so you could hide your 'unmentionables' in the middle.  6. It didn't matter if it was sub zero weather ... clothes would 'freeze dry.'   7. Always gather the clothes pins when taking down dry clothes. Pins left on the line was 'tacky'.   8. If you were efficient, you would line the clothes up so that each item did not need two clothes pins, but shared one of the clothes pins with the next washed item. 9. Clothes off of the line before dinner time, neatly folded in the clothes basket and ready to be ironed.   10. IRONED? Well, that's a whole other subject.   A POEM  A clothes line was a news forecast  To neighbors passing by.  There were no secrets you could keep  When clothes were hung to dry.     It also was a friendly link  For neighbors always knew  If company had stopped on by  To spend a night or two.   For then you'd see the 'fancy sheet s' And towels upon the line;  You'd see the 'company table cloths'  With intricate design.    The line announced a baby's birth  To folks who lived inside  As brand new infant clothes were hung  So carefully with pride.    The ages of the children could  So readily be known  By watching how the sizes changed  You'd know how much they'd grown.    It also told when illness struck,  As extra sheets were hung;  Then nightclothes, and a bathrobe, too,  Haphazardly were strung.    It said, 'Gone on vacation now'  When lines hung limp and bare.  It told, 'We're back!' when full lines sagged  With not an inch to spare.    New folks in town were scorned upon  If wash was dingy gray,  As neighbors carefully raised their brows,  And looked the other way...    But clotheslines now are of the past  For dryers make work less.  Now what goes on inside a home  Is anybody's guess.    I really miss that way of life.  It was a friendly sign  When neighbors knew each other best  By what hung on the line!

Name the last five winners of the Miss America contest. 4. Easier? The lesson -- The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care. Pass this on to those people who have made a difference in your life. "Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It is already tomorrow in Australia." --- Charles Schultz [[Note: Charles Shultz did NOT actually create this quiz.]]

    3. Hi all, I have heard the phrase a few times. I've been told by some that I am nearing thr end of my 86th "orbit." what difference does it make as to what we call it? We are all getting older by the minute. Some gracefully and no complaint; others fighting it all the time and refusing to admit to the number of years they have been around. One can make themselves miserable and cause friction in relationships with family and friends. If you are 'old' and limited in your activities, admit it and things will go a lot easier. 1. [SOUTHERN-CHAT] Four letter ugly words..

    3. My opinion is that people who insist on using dirty language and waving their arms about and raising their voices for emphasis, really have nothing of importance to say. A quiet manner and clearly spoken words carry a lot more weight than the screamers and wavers. Too many screamers and wavers about these days, so many rude and foul mouths among us, pitiful that they feel the need to resort to this kind of behavior. Regards,Belle in North Las Vegas, Nv.

    3. Hello All, For those of us who worked many years for good companies and earned good benefits,it is a bit easier but with prices rising almost 'hourly, how long will they we be able to get along? A few years back, I went in with my daughter and bought this home, don't have to be concerned about rent increases which have gone out of sight in this area. Property values are flucuating but the house has doubled in value since we bought it. We could use another room for our stuff but we manage. .I feel for those who can't even buy an extra can of beans or package of breads when they go shopping. This great country has a black mark against it for outrageous amounts of money spent on unnecsary things. If common sense had been used, there would be no need for anyone in this country to be hungry or homelss. Many had poor paying jobs and didn't stay on a job long enough to gain any benefits, so they have almost nothing to live on. I think that we are going to have a lot more 'soup kithens' around in the near future. I don't drive anymore so I don't have the insurance and gas and general upkeep of a vehicle. I don't need new clothes, I have a large closet full of all kinds of things that I no longer wear, much of it never worn. We have our assortment of emergency supplies, I hope all of you also have extras on hand. Regards, Belle inNorth Las Vegas, Nevada.

    2. The powers that be have allowed themselves to get painted into a corner, so to speak...Some jails and prisons that were used to growing their own food are no longer able to do so because of new rules and regs and folks getting lawsuit happy....Ditto with taking work crews out of the jail to clean up the right of ways, etc....They still do it in this county, plus civic orgs adopt a section of Highway and keep it clean.....Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Fri, 4 Apr 2008 23:13:08 EDT MindaTamsyn33@wmconnect.com writes: > I could add to that. 3. ----- Original Message ----- ---------- Forwarded Message ---------- -------------- Forwarded Message: -------------- From: John ---------------------------------- AP IMPACT: States Facing Budget Trouble Consider Releasing Inmates Early to Save Millions By RAY HENRY Associated Press Writer (AP) 09:23:38 PM (ET), Thursday, April 3, 2008 (PROVIDENCE, R.I.) Lawmakers from California to Kentucky are trying to save money with a drastic and potentially dangerous budget-cutting proposal: releasing tens of thousands of convicts from prison, including drug addicts, thieves and even violent criminals.
