LaDonna, I just went to the store to fill up four 5 gallon cans with gas... It cost me $65.85... This is not for the car, it's for the yard and garden this summer. They're talking about $4 and maybe $5 before it's over. I would be nice if we could just stop buying it... maybe get a mule and wagon like we had when I was a teenager!!! That was sooooo embarrassing... Mary Clyde, I don't think I bought any corn last year and I did not plant any. I was blessed with a load of Illinois sweet corn from a produce hauling truck driver. I will need to beg buy or borrow some this year cause at this time I do not have a empty row in my garden. What worry's me is all the corn by-products, corn syrup, corn oil, corn meal and the list goes on. Nice day here and I'm going to pick poke. Later LaDonna ================== JEREMIAH 33:3

What kind of wild mushrooms are you talking about ? LOVE 'EM ! We used to find Morels down in the woods behind our garden, but got allergic to tick bites, and since theres no cattle in that area the deer have moved in and deer ticks are terrible...An elderly man used to own it and run a few head of cattle...They were seldom seen but kept the underbrush cleared out..What we need is a big herd of goats to put in there...they will eat any kind of brush before clover or lush grass....Hard to keep in , though...Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Tue, 22 Apr 2008 12:31:40 -0500 mcglocklin@webtv.net (LaDonna) writes: Put wild mushrooms in freezer this past two or three weeks think I'll can some creme of mushroom soup with > the next batch probably want be getting very many since its getting late in season.> LaDonna

Yes, there was snow on the beaches. It made the news. That's not a frequent happening. We're suppose to be warming up a little. Our days are in the low 50's but it's the nights that was getting the fruit blossoms. My parents planted by the Farmers Almanac, when to plant certain things. They always had a good garden so I guess it worked. This was in southern California. I used to look forward to the peach harvest. I would load up my station wagon with produce and spend the next week canning everything. That meant we would still eat good in the winter when my husband might be out of work. He was a carpenter and work was not always plentiful. I would take him to my shelves and show him all of my canned goods. I told him that was my contribution to the family. Of course, I worked also which sure helped out. It's funny you said you unsubbed from HS because of it being so busy. I don't think it's very busy and wish more people would write something. I always enjoyed the recipes you sent. A lot of them I sent on to my new DIL. She wanted some southern cooking recipes. Take care of yourself. Hi LaDonna, Last year people around here, SC, were paying $4.00 and $4.50 per dozen for corn. The drought kept me from making any. I planted two rows and got 4 ears. I don't know whether I'll plant any this year or not. Guess I could plow up another spot just for that and pray that God would bless my corn patch this year!!! I DO know that prayer does work in all things!! Good seeing somebody on here after so long... Hey Carol, I thought that I had unsubscribed or something. I did unsub from the HomeSpun list because I was getting Digests and didn't like that. Tried to re-subscribe to the regular List but it wouldn't let me. Anyway.... I planted my garden this past Saturday. Now I'd like to see it rain for awhile. We're still on water restrictions... can't wash our cars or water our lawns [who would want to???] My "lawn" is about 1½ acres!!!! It's good seeing you on here and nice hearing from you. I hope all is well...
