    2. Dancing around the May pole is one of those things they used to do 'over in the olde country " MANY years ago....The powers that be just about stamped it out... LOTS of May apples in huge swaths down in the woods here...some have blooms, some don't.. I've tasted the fruit and didn't like it.....The plants look like green umbrellas...I think it spreads by underground runners......Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ On Thu, 1 May 2008 21:01:41 -0400 "Mary R Mungo" <MRMungo@Comporium.net> writes: > You know... when I was a child, about a hunnert years ago, we used to have a 'May Pole' at school

    2. Peace Roses
    3. You reminded me of the time I pruned my mother's rose bushes, but I did it on purpose. She lived in southern California. I don't know know if she hadn't pruned them yet or didn't know how to prune the bushes to get the maximum affect. They were quite large and I had learned how to prune rose bushes to make them come back better. I was out there pruning her roses, cutting them close to the ground when she came outside and saw me. She told me I had better not have killed her rose bushes (she had some pretty ones) or I was in for it. I told her I knew what I was doing. I had pruned them down to about one foot above the ground. Sure enough they came back prettier and more bushier than before, no long branches to avoid. After I married, we bought the Encyclopaedia of Gardening and I devoured those books. That was one of our good investments. 1. [SOUTHERN-CHAT] Buzz has the garden shears ! Oh NO !
    2. 'Buzz' is a great little helper in the yard, and you usually only have to show him something one time and he has it....of course being a clever young man he notices what other folks do also....I was down in the garden using the hand held nippers to trim some bushes when I noticed him coming across the yard with Papas BIG pruners.....Whacking them into the ground every little bit didn't do much for the mossy grass OR the pruners, but I thought it was worth it to keep him busy till Papa could catch up to him...He walked up to the peach tree and before I could say 'Don't do it ! He had snipped off a low hanging limb..I watched in amazement and heard him say '' There. That's out of my way." Sure enough, he could now walk under it with all ease....THEN he wrestled the pruners into position and snipped off a rose branch ! 2. Stella Roper
    3. I suppose all of you saw the news. It is just as I said...Sam's is importing their rice. only 10% of suppliers in this country buy imported rice...but Walmart's and Sam's fall in that group. I just wish Sam Walton could come forth from his grave, wouldn't he be shocked? He started Walmart's with the slogan......"--Made in the USA' I do not care...myself..I have never bought food from there, because of the wide chain and the brand names. I did buy a bunch of leeks there one day...while getting medicine. But since then, moved my prescriptions to Walgreens. Oh well...we now know, there is no shortage of rice that is grown in the states.Stella

    3. Y'all can have your bears... Once in awhile we see a wildcat, but not very often... sometimes you can hear their screech at night in the woods across the way. I saw a cayote crossing the field beside my house. I'm kinda out in the boondocks, so it's not unusual to see thisNthat around. I saw our first Hummingbird this morning. I just wonder why they are so late coming this year! Hummingbirds and Cardinals are my favorite birds... course, I love the lovely bluebirds too! Phooey, they're all my favorites. My cat likes them too... he got one of the little finches the other day. Now I know that he is capable of taking care of himself if something happens to me or if I'm gone for a few days. 1. [SOUTHERN-CHAT] Buzz has left the building !
    2. Yes, we are once again recovering from a visit with that little dynamo named Buzz....He had rather an odd hairdo when he got here..sort a copy of his new Step dads...It took us a good while to get used to it...........Then he decided he didn't want a haircut like his Step dads...nor did he want it to look like Son's, he wanted it to look like HIS haircut..so he cut it....He sure got it right..it looked JUST like something he would appreciate...Prom's all over town had the beauticians reeling, and folks standing in line...SO Granny had to try and fix it....I'd sooner thread a sewing machine and it running than cut that child' hair again ! {I'm saving up money to tip the girl that cuts his hair.}.........He realized things weren't going too well when I kept muttering under my breath ...Oh my Gosh, etc...Finally he said ' How's it look ?" I said '' Do you want me to tell you the truth or lie to you ? "He thought about it briefly and said " Tell me the truth ." I said. "Well...it looks awful , I'm afraid...." He thought that one over a sec then said calmly " Lie to me ." Whatta boy ! The neighbors Lab got loose and since they were gone all day it stayed around our yard for the 'weenie roast,' etc...Buzz had a hard time keeping up with young Harley, and would get worried if he went in the woods....Once hubby went down there to get him out of the edge of the woods where they HAD been playing minutes before and they were gone ! He finally found them way over on the next ridge....Buzz following Harley and trying to get him to be a good dog and come back....This all happened in less time than it takes to tell it...as Buzz can move at darn near the speed of light....If we weren't watching him so closely no telling how far they would have gone..Buzz went down there with me recently so knows basically where to walk...He didn't get any ticks as far as we know but hubby got one....He's like a tick magnet...and allergic to them to boot...Other than a scrape and scratch or too Buzz is alright....I miss that youngen........Jeannie T
