Oh Maryclyde what a fine fix that was !I'm glad you recovered safe and sound and your garden too.It seems we do get ourselves into one fix right after another as we get into our golden years ,it's funny though . Momma Hey LaDonna and Carol and all... I've got to tell you about the situation I got myself into Saturday when I was out tilling the garden. That little garden is about 30' x 25'... anyway... I was going down one of the rows with that TroyBilt Tiller and got to the end. I raised up on it to turn it around and that rascal took off, just flying across the yard toward my chain link fence. Just jumped right out of my hands... I had to run to keep up with it and then had a time trying to turn it off or slow it down!! I'll bet that was a sight for sore eyes!!!! That old 74½ year old woman chasing a tiller across the yard. I'll tell you what... when I caught that thing my heart was beating a hundred times a minute, I do believe! I didn't know that machine could go so fast! Scared me to death... I had to go and sit down with a glass of tea and wait to calm down before I went back and finished. Got that place planted though. I can tell you this, I'm getting too old for all that excitement... Now all I have to do is pray for rain and wait and watch... 3. Carol, I don't know if any of this will help - but here goes : VA. was home to the Church Of England AKA Episcopalan and Scotland sent her Presbyterian prisoners (it was against the law to be a Presbyterian in Scotland ). Methodist came into Savannah ,GA harbor and were just another part of the Protestant rable .Anyway that's what they were all considered then .The only exception could be the Episc. as they were a state church at the time and in VA. they owned the land and worked the Presb. thus the change in the Lords Prayer ,instead of the usual "and give us our daily bread etc." the Presb. say forgive us our debts as we forgive our debters" meaning the Episc. as their debter . I'll see if I can find out what M.E.U.S. stands for . 3. I had forgotten about the May Pole dances. Weaving in and out with the colored streamers. I was in school in the early 40's. I don't remember what years we did this, whether I did it more than one year or not, but I remember doing it. I just thought of another tradition we did. Did any of you put May Day baskets on the neighbors door handles, filled with flowers? I did that in elementary school. Mama had beautiful flower beds and one special neighbor I would always take a May Day basket over and hang on her door. She said she knew who brought it because no one else had the flowers that Mama had. 3. Lee, You are right about that. The school systems seems to let the kids go through school and 'graduate' without knowing how to write their own name so that it can be read.Good 'penmanship was required in my school days. The Palmer method was taught in my school days. I did well, ending up with good handwriting. In November 1966 when our new Sears opened n Costa Mesa, Calif. I was asked to hand address the over 100 special invitations to the VIP's in the area for the opening. The boss liked my handwriting. Many of the good things of the past have fallen by the wayside, what a shame. The quality of life has certainly not improved, regardless of what is considered necessary these days. My opinnion.
