To everyone, 2 and 2 still make 4 to an honest person or honest group. They seem to be scarce these days. I doubt that anyone will get my vote this time. I dislike the way things are being done and I have very strong feelings about the capability of any of the candidates to bring back the respect and prestige to the Oval Office that it deserves. Well....did you girls who live in KY go see Bill or Hillary this week? This is the most ridiculous run election I ever witnesed in my lifetime. Why don't they have a voting day...and let every state vote and elect a president. Save Billions of dollars too. Stella P.S. Emma...Oregon is really turning out, according to the exit polls. And they said most had mailed them in early.
I mailed my ballot on Wednesday. After Thursday they said not to mail them, they wouldn't get to the election bureau in time. I heard this morning that a lot of people were taking their ballots in to drop off boxes in the rain. I used to vote early as soon as I got my ballot. But a lot of the stuff would come out about the candidates AFTER I mailed my ballot so now I wait until the last week. When Obama was here last weekend they said there was 70,000 out to hear him. Not me, I stayed home where it was nice and comfortable. Many, many years ago, I would pack the picnic basket with sandwichs, fruit, cookies, drinks, erc. and take my kids and sometimes aneighbor and her kids and head for the nearest park or the beach when we lived in California. In later years, I haven't been able to go and the parks and beachs have become too dangerously populated to even attempt a pleasant picnic. I go back to the time when we had "All Day Singing and "Dinner on the Ground" . A sort of picnic affair. People would gather at a small country church, all bring their tablecloths and food items. They would spread them out on the lawns and under the trees. All atteding were welcome to help themseles to anything that was offered. There was always plenty of items offered. Fried chicken, sliced ham, potato salads, cole slaw, pickles, breads, cookies, etc. Always gallons of tea and lemonade. I loved to wander through the area and pick out what appealed to me. No one ever went home hungry. It was agood time for all to catch up on all the news of the area since there were no phones.Births, deaths, marriages, etc and a good time for the young ones to meet and get aquainted. One didn't have to be concerned about the small children walking aroundamong the area. Part of the 'good old days'. Hello, I have read about the law, I don't like it either but one good thing is that they can't have kids to be neglested and abused , by their union. Not the way some so called legal unions with four or more wives and dozens of offspring to be abused, neglected and no knowledge of who might be their parent. This is the kind of thing that makes me ill. The most disgusting thing a person can do. I had a distant cousin, brother to my great-grandfather that joined the group. His son went to Colorado, ended upp with four wives and 27 children. Many of these went to Arizona. Two of his wives were sisters but there is no mention of their parents in the LDS Genealogy records. I met some of the descendants living in Arizona back in the late 60's. Nice people but some didn't seem to be playing with a full deck. Perhaps I will be asked to refrain from posting on these lists, so it goes. The Price of Children The government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to 18 and came up with $160,140 for a middle income family. Talk about sticker shock! That doesn't even touch college tuition. But $160, 140 isn't so bad if you break it down. It translates into: * $8,896.66 a year, * $741.38 a month, or * $171.08 a week. * That's a mere $24.24 a day! * Just over a dollar an hour. Still, you might think the best financial advice is don't have children if you want to be 'rich.' Actually, it is just the opposite. What do you get for your $160,140? * Naming rights. First, middle, and last! * Glimpses of God every day. * Giggles under the covers every night. * More love than your heart can hold. * Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs. * Endless wonder over rocks, ants, clouds, and warm cookies. * A hand to hold, usually covered with jelly or chocolate. * A partner for blowing bubbles, flying kites * Someone to laugh yourself silly with, no matter what the boss said or how your stocks performed that day. For $160,140, you never have to grow up. You get to: * finger-paint, * carve pumpkins, * play hide-and-seek, * catch lightning bugs, and * never stop believing in Santa Claus. You have an excuse to: * keep reading the Adventures of Piglet and Pooh, * watching Saturday morning cartoons, * going to Disney movies, and * wishing on stars. * You get to frame rainbows, hearts, and flowers under refrigerator magnets and collect spray painted noodle wreaths for Christmas, hand prints set in clay for Mother's Day, and cards with backward letters for Father's Day. For $160,140, there is no greater bang for your buck. You get to be a hero just for: * retrieving a Frisbee off the garage roof, * taking the training wheels off a bike, * removing a splinter, * filling a wading pool, * coaxing a wad of gum out of bangs, and coaching a baseball team that never wins but always gets treated to ice cream regardless. You get a front row seat to history to witness the: * first step, * first word, * first bra, * first date, and * first time behind the wheel. You get to be immortal. You get another branch added to your family tree, and if you're lucky, a long list of limbs in your obituary called grandchildren and great grandchildren. You get an education in psychology, nursing, criminal justice, communications, and human sexuality that no college can match. In the eyes of a child, you rank right up there under God. You have all the power to heal a boo-boo, scare away the monsters under the bed, patch a broken heart, police a slumber party, ground them forever, and love them without limits. So, one day they will, like you, love without counting the cost. That is quite a deal for the price!!!!!!! Love & enjoy your children & grandchildren!!!!!!! ________________________________ Get Free (PRODUCT) RED™ Emoticons, Winks and Display Pics. You know Belle, Sometimes strange things have happened to me... For instance, I was in a cemetery near where one of my ancestors lived and died and I was looking at the stones trying to find his. Well there was a very old tree about in the middle of the cemetery and a large limb broke off and fell among some stones, so I walked down there to see if it had damaged any of the stones... it didn't. But the stone right beside it was the one that I was looking for. That gave me goose bumps too!!! Strange... Gosh Belle and Joyce!!!! You've made me feel bad... I've been volunteering with the American Red Cross for over two years. Some volunteers are given the AFES [Armed Forces Emergency Services] pager for a week at a time. We get calls, in the middle of the night, from people who need to get in touch with their loved one who is in service when there is an emergency, sickness of an immediate family member, birth of their child, death of an immediate family member, etc... no matter where they are. We have one paid employee in our local office during the day... the others volunteer their time. If your son was talked to the way that you say, he should have reported that person the next day to the person in charge at the Red Cross office in the county where he resided. Was this your son? Or was this passed on from someone who had this 'very bad' experience? If this had happened through our local Red Cross chapter that person would no longer be a volunteer here and he would get an apology from the top brass. I don't know about the money... but, those people have to live too, therefore there is a salary involved. I know, most of them probably make too much, but they are on call day and night. When I went to California during the San Diego Fires, I dropped everything to go and do what I could for those poor people who, some of them, had lost everything that they had and THEY appreciated what little we did. We didn't feel like we were doing that much. Even though we worked 10 hours a day, feeding them and setting up cots and listening to them... and some of them really had touching stories to tell. There were several nights that we cried ourselves to sleep. There are good and bad people in everything! I'm sorry that you have a 'bad taste' in your mouth for the Red Cross, but I've seen some of what they do and I am proud to be a volunteer with the AMERICAN RED CROSS... May Clyde, I called the Red Cross, wanting to get in touch with my older son who was on his ship off the coast of Viet Nam. I wanted him to know about his young brother' being in the accident.. I had allthe needed info, name, service number, ship, etc. He was the Captain's secretary so he wouldn't have been hard to find. Right, there are good and bad in every group of folks. Thanks for your response.
