Sounds good but I think I'll stay with my version. I don't care for relish altho I like chopped pickles. No, no mustard. My husband liked sardines for his lunch for a change of diet. I don't care for them and can't even get past the smell. Good stuff, on little round crackers. I remember way back when my father would eat canned mackerel with mustard and crackers, I couldn't handle that, I used tuna, boy its a little dry. I didn't have the celery when I started making tuna salad so I just never added it, probably should, for the taste change, of course its a must for chicken-n-dressing, lots of it. Bobby, your tuna salad had better be pretty good to outshine mine. I put chopped celery, chopped pickle, chopped onion, (one of my boys didn't like boiled eggs so no boiled egg in mine). Mix together with mayonnaise and enjoy. I still like it, maybe in a quartered tomato for a lunch. A story about my tuna sandwiches. When my kids were in elementary school, you could buy a can of tuna for 39 cents. I could easily get 3 sandwiches out of one can so they were pretty cheap sandwiches, and my kids loved them. So, every day they got a tuna sandwich in their lunches plus whatever else they took. A long time afterwards, my daughter told me they got tired of tuna sandwiches all the time so they would trade their sandwiches off for a bologna sandwich or something else someone offered them. The other kids loved to get my tuna sandwiches. One time I had a teenaged girl babysit in the daytime for me. The kids were smaller then. I told her to fix tuna sandwiches as my kids loved them. When I got home, here were these sandwiches left lying on their plates. She had opened up a can of tuna and laid it on the bread. I had no idea that people didn't make tuna sandwiches like I did. Bobby, have you tickled the fancy of your sweetie with this cake ? You can add all sorts of different things to make a change...You might want to use a soup cup rather than a coffee mug.....Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~ 5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE 4 tablespoons cake flour (thats plain flour, not self-rising) 4 tablespoons sugar 2 tablespoons baking cocoa 1 egg 3 tablespoons milk 3 tablespoons oil 3 tablespoons chocolate chips(optional) a small splash of vanilla essence 1 coffee mug Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla essence, and mix again. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired. Can add toppings/whip cream. chocolate sundae topping, etc... EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous). And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night! ____________________________________________________________ Click here for great computer networking solutions! http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL2141/fc/Ioyw6i3oHgMsoQACIyCWSnKeEi58CTNYA0hln5KziqFAaWZcBNpCmG/

My partner in cooking class was Billie Jo. I still remember her. She was all thumbs when it came to fixing something. One day we had to cut out the sections of a grapefruit and arrange them on a plate. I didn't have any trouble doing mine but Billie Jo's was all mushy and looked horrible. I knew I was getting good grades in that class and Billie Jo was just barely passing. I switched our plates before the teacher came around to inspect them. The teacher saw mine and asked me what happened. I just told her I had problems. That was all that was said. Of course Billie Jo got a good grade on hers, which was the object. I had forgotten all about that incident. It took me the longest to learn what white sauce was. We made "thickenin' gravy" at home and that's all I knew to call it. I thought white sauce was some fancy doing's. What a funny story. When my husband and I went on a trip thru California, we came to the inspection station between Oregon and California. We had bought either apples or oranges (can't remember which) from a store so they weren't home grown. Of course we had to declare them at the station. We were told we couldn't bring them into the state. We had 4 or 5, we had planned to have them for snacks along the way. Paulette..you might write bapace@Juno.com because her ancestor Abner Pace was in the Home Guard in Rowan or some N.C. unit.. The letter below is from her.Goodluck,Stella) ...............................................................I have heard that there was a plan for a final/last volume of Clarke's NC Regiments research. The Salisbury Home Guard, the 73rd Regiment (also known as the 4th Regiment). Don't know if that final volume been printed? >From several readings I have found on other lists,, it seems that the Home Guard group mostly did roundups of escaped slaves, deserters or war resisters in their area, plus possibly engaging Gen. Stoneman in late April 1865. I don't think they got much action except for deserters to the west. Some say The Home Guard didn't have a very good reputation as they stole, destroyed, and terrified the families of deserters. There is a Guilford Gen. Journal about the Home Guard in the area of Greensboro and I would bet the Salisbury bunch did much the same thing. it has been a while since I studied this, but the 73rd Regiment NC Troops (4th Regiment Reserves) were "Senior Reserves" and not "Home Guard." Home Guards and Reserves are two different things. It is possible, particularly in that late stage of the war, that someone who was a "Home Guard" could have been mustered into a Reserve Regiment. Here is what I have already found from Clarke's NC Regiments. The book is now digitalized at: Walter Clark--, Histories of the several regiments and battalions from North Carolina, in the great war 1861-'65 http://digital.lib.ecu.edu/historyfiction/authors.aspx?sort=C Summarized or quoted at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nccatawm/NCMilOrg/73rdReg-JrReserve.htm There is an introduction to Jr. & Sr. Reserve at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nccatawm/NCMilOrg/ReserveIndex.htm

You will have to keep doing it as it wears off. Stella P.S. Don't worry about what the neighbors think...if it works they will be happy to learn this! (Me too)
The squirrels here used to eat into the pears just to get the seeds.....dumb buggers...If they'd waited a little while they could have eaten the whole pear ! No troubles with the squirrels eating fruit now...I think so many of them starved to death after the year when there was a glut of them that all fruit is safe....Before they all died out just about they were eating the green pine cones right off the tree ! We've lived here over 20 years and had never seen that....Now days we rarely even see a squirrel....Don't know if they are 'cutting' on the hard head hickory nut at the edge of the wood or not.....but haven't seen a single fruit tree with damage. They used to run out on a limb, eat off any apples they could reach, and just leave the apple on the tree for future picnics......Deer sometimes come up in the yard to eat windfalls, but no sign of them this year...GOOD! They bring deer ticks into the yard.... Because bad places may be anywhere in the apple I always cut them up and 'fry' them in a little water, butter and sugar.....I think they might be far enough along to start drying, too.....Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Tue, 26 Aug 2008 07:28:57 -0500 "Bobby Hatfield" <bobhat2@gmail.com> writes: > Them apples falling off the trees before they get ripe are really > good when > you wash, core and fill up the little holes with brown sugar and > cinnimon > and nuke them in the microwave for 4 or 5 minutes. Wife used to cook the pears and would add lots of sugar, I kept on her to cook them with out sugar to see how they were, finally she canned some without sugar, (almost, she just had to put in a little sweetnin without telling me) they were the best and I ate everyone she would can from then on. The squirrels want the seeds I guess, it rained pear parts on my head under the tree but could not go get my gun, or camera quick enough.
