Mary Clyde thank you for all you do. I heard one lady say she was sent to LA with Gustav...was still there now...with Ike people. A mother of four! Ike stories will be around for a LONG time. My nephew is there. They are still finding destruction. Where are those hundreds going to live......that have NO HOUSE to return to? Who will support them for months?Or like Katrina...for years. You know, I don't understand all I know about this.....here in Tuscaloosa Al...if I had to pack up and leave, because of a flood coming...from a "nature thing", there would be no thought of someone moving me, at their expence...or payng my hotelbill, or gas to get to my families' somewhere else.. .we would all be respnsible for ourselves...and if my house was destroyed,if I had inurance...fine.thats my problem...if not we would sell the lot...or get a loan to rebuild...I don't mean that neighbor does not help neighbor, or that we don't have emergency shelters set up during terrible things...we do...we also have emergency agencies where people who has lost a home...by fire, or tornado, etc can go and gt mattreses...clothes...whatever. Places give food. But when did it start that the government was responsible for able bodid pesons that can work and root for themselves? I know an agency would take chlldren, if they were orphaned, or help elderly...or assist injured...but for years.furnish free housing? I don't quite get it. Someone pleaae enlighten me.Does the government tell those folks it is mandatory that they go live, and build on the beach? Sorry...I still don't get it.(and before you say or think it...I am one of the most generous and prone to volunteer. people you will ever find) I am glad we have warning systems...I am glad we have weather channels, radar, mayors or governors who go on TV saying if you live on the water...you should get out...but not that we will pay for it or feed and clothe you, and furnish housng for you for months. This government is bankrupt.Help. Stella
I agree with everything you said, Stella. I've thought the same thing. I still don't understand why we are still supporting people from the Katrina hurricane (if we are). At some point they have to be self sufficient or go to a family member. Thank you for putting this into words. I'm not really sure why we lost power...... that seems to be a way of life with Florida Light & Power!! Power surges regularly.... grrrrr! I saw a fire truck down the road then whammo.....no power.... maybe an electrical fire somewhere....no one ever tells. How does one go about getting involved with the RedCross to make those trips? I have no money to hand out but I do have ME.....I can spare me, fer shure. Let me tell you that sometimes those lil debbil horns are not so little!! I have plenty enough hair to twist around them but that just skeers people even more......Look at that crazy lady with her hair wrapped around her horns; who's she trying to kid!!! paulette in sw fla usa..... will keep all in my prayers..... and bless them for their good works...yip.... WHERE THE SUN DON"T SHINE!!!! EGADS!! I don't want to know! J.t., hope all goes well with the doc. It's strange around these parts when ever there is anything out in the gulf. We have rip tides now (and before today too) from Ike..... blasted all over the tv and radio...but do the vacationers listen???!!! NO!!! A man and his teenage son decided to take a swim and were found EIGHT MILES OUT.... thankfully, alive. They were only several feet off shore when the tide caught them - then it was bye bye momma, see ya in about TEN HOURS! It is just amazing at how one storm can effect such a wide area...... and I'm not even gonna talk about the price of gas in some areas.... grrrrrrr paulette in sw fla usa..... Yep...that little black eye I'm sportin' is thanks to a mosquito bite in just the right place....I was reading in bed when one of hubby's 'pets' he let in the house began buzzing around my head and I kept trying to shoo it away from my temple...When I went to the bathroom later I thought there was a dirt smear by the outer edge of my right eye..Rubbing it , etc. didn't make it go away, but DID make it hurt. I put Neo-sporin on it and forgot about it...Next time I looked in the mirror blood had run under the skin and I had a 'black eye !' Chiropractor said theres a certain blood vessel right there and the mosquito must have nailed it....The blood thinner I take to keep my heart happy did the rest.... Hubby called upon his 'vast' store of home remedy knowledge and advised a grated potato poultice...[wrapped up grated raw Irish potato on a square of gauze. ] I held it on my eye till I go tired of it and I think it helped some...Hubby said it looked a lot better, but then he would, wouldn't he ? It was HIS home remedy ! It's no worse today and makes a darn good conversation piece...after all, how many people do you know who ever got a black eye from a mosquito ? I bought quite a few things with my green stamps. I didn't collect the other kind as much but several places we shopped at gave out the green stamps. There was a distribution center that I went to to redeem my stamps. Seems like there was a small catalog we could look at also. Several things I bought were my kids stroller, a Cosco step stool, milk glass creamer and sugar with a tray. I'm racking my brain to think of the other things and can't remember what else. I'm sure some toys, maybe some more things for the kitchen. I was sorry to see them stopped. Linens, cooking utensils, lamps and other items. Buying for our famly of five at many different stores gave me quite a few stamps of both kinds. I have several of the World War II ration stamp books. The grand kids say they are strange, yes, they are. The Government is going to need a new design the next time around.
