I heard a newscaster say it was the first day of Fall, which I hadn't even suspected until she said something...and I could have done without that reminder.....Folks warble on about the cool crisp days of Fall being such a joy after putting up with all that hot humid Summer weather....DON'T THOSE FOLKS REALIZE THAT WINTER FOLLOWS ON THE HEELS OF FALL ? Younger people may have a reason to enjoy Fall, because time hasn't gone into warp speed like it has for my age group..... Beans are hanging everywhere down in the garden, theres still apples on the tree....but the goldenrod is in full flower and the beautiful deep purple and dusty rose Fall asters are beginning to bloom.......great swaths of Spanish Needle hug fence rows, and the purple/blue of Ageratum spreads across damp pastures....Oh yes, the Autumn flowers are a blooming...Sigh.....Only one blessing in all this...time passes so fast winter will soon be gone, and my beloved Spring is right around the corner ! I raked up piles of windfall apples today, and peeled lots of them to put in the freezer for cold times....I took some of them with me when I took Buzz back to his Mom, and Grandson John used them to bake his first apple pie since he was a little boy....He and Amber were great at helping me in the kitchen...Buzz isn't quite as helpful...the boy tastes so often theres little left for the pot. One day he helped me snap beans, and decided they tasted so good raw there was no need to cook them ! I miss that boy..............Jeannie T ____________________________________________________________ Criminal Lawyers - Click here. http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL2141/fc/Ioyw6i3oGdgrZFmUtXoz4d2jzSWzwxE2spgseszMgURPATIvaKF4aG/

Lee...I envy you, having all that great outdoors to be in, anytime. Sure hope you are taking pictures of all that, for us. I still have the pics you sent, of the seasons..on your road. And the baby bear. I love the pictures of all the snow. We don't get it here...sometimes..in a blue moon..we get a dusting. But here...folks can't take it. It stops everything if we get two inches of snow!.Eveything but the wrecks. S.
Mary Clyde...I had the same thing happen to me. My 'low tire' light came on, last Saturday afternoon..or at least that's when I found it...I use a GodyearTire Store here close by..naturally they were closed...I too went to Walmart...ropes were drawn across the pull through tent...and I figured they had all they could take...So I came home..I thought a back tire might look a tad low,,,but not much. I called my daughter and told her if it went flat I would have to call her if I needd anything before Monday. Well... Monday came, the tire looked the same...I went to tire store and they said it had a nail...on the side...I sort of needed back tires anyway...I bought two front tires last summer. So I had them put on the back, and got two new front tires. So I am ready to go. I don't like to run a 'fixed' tire. Stella
so sorry to hear of your troubles, MaryC...... at the very least you were in a great place to get help. For those who don't know...... after the disaster the government offers very low interest loans for those who qualify. We did not qualify so we were just on our own for fixing and repairing and replacing. Even though we paid for three different types of insurance - it was all just another money making racket. We ended up being just shy of $10,000.00 in the hole ---- over ten grand could be written off income taxes as a loss ----- we didn't make it. Some of our neighbors who had no mortgages weren't obligated to carry insurance so they did qualify for the low interest government loans - lucky for them! In another area, People who lost their homes were put up in fema trailers in a large "park:"..... no expense to them. Some were elderly and some were just bums. The migrant workers and farm laborers were basically left to fend for themselves......living in tents in their areas or in their trailers with no windows/doors etc. Our locals took as much foo! d and c lothing and offered baths - after two weeks when our electric came back on and water was restored. No government help / aid came to where we lived but fema did aid elsewhere. There were over 300 fema trailers in the government run park....... which eventually were sold for $1500.00 / each. These were brand new, two bedroom or more!! Wonder who took the thousands of dollars loss on those trailers?? I don't know how to fix this. I do know that when I was a kid in southern Illinois,,,,,, disasters were handled locally and by friends, neighbors, your church, your community....not by the federal government. I remember my parents and a bunch of others helping a family rebuild their house that was blown away by a tornado...... paulette in sw fla usa.... too blabby today.... hey girl....can't imagine you offended anyone. Hope no one set you on fire..... ouch ouch ouch!!! Must agree with you about the federal government / disaster issue. Be Prepared!! Just as we have done down here in SW Fla..... buy one can of beans at a time until there's enough to last for a good long time cuz we have no $$$ to go anywhere in case of another big wind. (we stayed through Cat.4 Hurricane Charley) We helped those that had bigger losses than us and local church groups and GOD BLESS THE RED CROSS for all their help. We stayed because we had no place to go and no $$$ to get there.....plus our critters. After the fact we were not looking to the Feds for anything. The less the government is in my life, the better I like it. By the way, for those who don't live in hurricane areas,,,,,, there is all sorts of literature handed out everywhere telling what all a family needs just in case. It's all over the local news and papers and everywhere you tur! n. As soon as "hurricane season" is over most of us down here will begin our preparation for next hurricane season.......a little at a time. paulette in sw fla usa..... a group of youngers from a church in Kentucky came down here and helped us replace our roof...... bless them, fer shure -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: busmar1852@webtv.net (Stella Roper) > OK...I didn't mean to offend anyone...and I didn't mean we do not always > help each other in need. That's what made America great. And it is > christian to help the poor. Stella, every word you said was exactly right. I don't understand this either, but when I was called to help, I went. I met some wonderful workers there who I will always call my friends. I probably won't go again because of my age. I am still absolutely worn out physically. I saw people, this time, who were USING the Red Cross and other agencies to get money and food, and we found out that they were not even living in the shelter where we were in Jackson, Mississippi, They lived just down the street from the shelter! Some were living with a cousin across town and coming to the shelter to eat. Each meal, morning-noon-and night, that we provided cost the Red Cross $6.50. We could not turn anybody away! Of course, there were some who were in pitiful shape financially. If your house was on/near the beach, like some in Galveston, WHY would you want to rebuild in the same place... for the next storm to cause destruction again??? Theres a lot that I don't understand either. But then, I guess I'm not supposed to. Now I feel like need to rest for another week, at least! OK...I didn't mean to offend anyone...and I didn't mean we do not always help each other in need. That's what made America great. And it is christian to help the poor. Just like after all disasters.Like what the Red Cross does...no stores or places to eat are open...so they furnish meals, etc....but I saw where thousands still live in Fema trailors, from Katrina?Three years. The next day, after IKE...when folks ventured out, who had remaied in their homes, in Galveston...they were lookng for coffee and cigarettes from people outside.I don't get it.Why didn't they prepare? I also know in some of the coastal places it may be famiies who have been there all their lives, and know nothing else but to go back to the same life...fishng or whatever. But I just don't see the government responsible for natural disasters. So here's the issue - I have a before me a steamin' hot cup o joe and a handful of Oreo cookies (oh yum!!!)...... now...... when I dunk my Oreo into the hot coffee do I dunk half way down, bite, dunk again, and bite; ;which is the Old Double Dunk. OR do I use the "One Dunk and Stuff" method which is Dunk it once 'til soft then stuff the entire cookie in my piehole? Either way,,,,,,what about that teeny weeny piece of cookie that I'm left holding? It's no more than a morsel!! The scenario changes somewhat if dunking into cold milk. Is it proper dunkology to plunge the entire cookie along with the tips of my fingers into the milk thereby avoiding the Morsel Issue? Double Dunking into cold milk still leaves the Morsel Issue unresolved though. paulette in sw fla usa..... this has really been buggin' me.... xoxoxoxo p.s. I prefer the cheap Duplex Cookies..... does that matter?
Paulette..I am not gonna touch this one...nope, I'm not going there. You are having too much fun..trying to fiqure that one out. By the time you do...you are gonna be gueesy, full. No Oreos for me, thanks. S.
