I wish everyone could see more of the world than their ownneighborhood. It is a fascinating planet. 1987 was the time of my trip to Europe. My niece lived in Munich, Germany and had been asking me to come over so she could show me around. Boy, did she show me around!!!!!We went to Rome, visited St. Peters, the Sistine Chapel, the Vatican Museum .A fascinating place. We spent sometime walking through Pompei (sp) One can only imagine how those people felt when all that hot ash was spewing out of the mountain. 79 A.D. was a long time ago but the relics left behind, the forms of bodies now as stone. I had taken myself back in time for a few minutes but was suddenly brought back when I saw the "PIZZERIA' sign at the exit. In Florence we saw the original statue of David in the museum. I got a couple of good pictures. Rome was a dirty, smelly place. I think the trolley cars (public transportation) were the first ones put in since the chariots were banned. Our hotel was old but clean. Our room had windows to the inside court and we could hear the music and voices of would be opera stars practiicing their scales. Everywhere we walked people were walking and eating, all kins of stuff. It cost more if you sat at a table and ordered. The street market was a strange set up. A stand selling purses could be next to one selling food, the next one selling silk scarves, all messy. I saw the Pieta in St. Peter's, took a picture which came out strange. No flash was allowed but my picture came out with a flash of ligght on the rail in front of the Pieta (the statue of Mary and Jesus) no light was near it to be reflected. More later. 3. In Unkraine, the toilets are at the end of each car too. There are little cubicles all along the side with one long aisle. There were two sets of bunk beds in each cubicle with just room to walk between them. Those bunks were 'hard' too. 3. I am pleased that you enjoyed my post. I like to share when it is of interest to someone else. It is often mindboggling to stand in front of these beautiful works of art and think about the person who worked on that piece of marble and made it into something the following generations could admire and appreciate. I think these two pieces are at the top of the list of great art. 3. Paris was a very interesting place but I would not like to live there. We had a nice hotel room, newly remodeled, new bathroom fixtures. The wallsof the bedroom were 'carpeted' for extra soundproofing. We saw Notre Dame church near the hotel. Went to the top of the Eifel Tower, got some great pictures, what a view of the big city! Took the boat trip down the Seine, past the castles onthe banks. Spent two days exploring the Louvre, saw and made pictures of the real Mona Lisa painting. One could spend a lot of time there, so much to see. We walked down the main street by the fashion shops and classy offerings. I had the nerve to go in one of them and ask the price of a leather purse in the window. It was beautiful and only $1200.00 .. We spent a day going o the Royal Palace at Versailles. That is where the famous Hall of Mirrors is located and where I had the meeting with the "stinking ghost". We had many choices of restaurants and of foods. One day we were inthe Arch de Triumph. They had a small lunch counter on the 5th floor. Chicken soup sounded good. The menu read chicken soup with 'legumes.' Well, it was not much but yellow water with a sliver of celery and an even smaller sliver of carrot and three little green peas floating around. If a chicken came near that soup it must have just walked by the stove while the water was boiling, no closer. More later, Belle
