    3. I'm glad everyone liked it. I made up recipe books for my two grandkids for Christmas (and all 3 of my kids wanted theirs updated too). I told my granddaughter I can't make myself quit collecting recipes, even knowing my cooking days are practically nil. She told me to be sure I sent her any that I found tasty enough to add to the book. I've collected recipes since before I married and I still love to collect them. Taste of Home has put out a casserole cookbook that looks good but I don't cook enough to warrant buying it. I still may break down and get it, I don't know. <g> About the only time I make myself cook something is if I go to a potluck. This church only has potlucks on the 5th Sunday. My church in Gresham had a potluck once a month. 3. Emma, I wanted you to know...my daughter (who works up to 64 hours most every week...and has two large dogs and two small house dogs at home, with three cats outside and a husband to feed) said this was really a great way to eat for three days! She made the snap top microwave dish of it, and froze them. In the mornings just grab one...and at lunch in the kitchen at Radiology Clinic...she said she could almost take a nap! It was very good, very filling and nutritious. I enjoyed mine too...of which I substituted one can of cream of chicken soup, because I am really not crazy about mushroom soup. Everybody loved mine too...I didn't get to freeze any of this one...too many tasters! But anyway...thanks again...wish I could reciprcate, with something you would like. 3. If I have to restrict my posts from any mention of the Bible, and anything in it, from Genesis to Revelation.....then I couldn't post, because I am likely to comment on any subject..That is my priorty in life...I do believe it, and I try to do as Jesus taught his followers to do.I make mistakes because I am not perfect, but I hope others will forgive my honest mistakes, as I do theirs..I mean well when I say anything about the Bible because it is with love that I do it. This has always been a christian country. Until now. That too, was foretold in the scripture. Regards to all, and respecting all others rights, I was taught by my Mother to respect other's rights. 3. I do ;not take offense when someone has a tagline after their name, I started to say, no matter what but I guess there would be some I wouldn't like. But, this is their belief. Just like at a football game, they say prayer before a game. Just because I may not believe as that person does, doesn't mean I respect them to say what they believe. Just over look it, say to yourself "that's their right to say what they believe" and go on with your life. And, esspecially since you don't post, you don't have a right to protest, is my belief. Just enjoy the list, join in and have a good conversation with the rest of us. 3. A lot of the UN people that Bill Clinton was just there working with, are dead. Their building was destroyed. Kathryn...the way they all talk..these were very good, friendly people who lived there...and a lot of people in this country do have homes there, it seems. keep seeing a story of someone who had just gotten back...one man was looking for his 15 year old daughter who had gone there with her uncle, who was selling his home there...and they said it was a last chance to go for her...they are missing. Someone was looking for a lady...said she had made a trip...getting there the day before the Quake, just to check up on her house...so I suppose lots of people did own homes there.I have never gone to these Islands, so I don't know...but Anderson Cooper tells that he knows the place, spoke of the Hotel where he had stayed before etc...So I think they did have tourists..There may have been a lot of poor immigrants go there in the last few years. What puzzles me...and ya'll watch this...behind Anderson Cooper and them...look how clean, and well dressed everyone is? I see sparkling white tee shirts, women in nice clean clothes...with back packs...etc...where are they getting a bath and clean clothes? Where are they using the bathroom? You would think they ran with what they had on..5 days ago? I saw people who were interviewed...really clean. Everyone you see being pulled out..usually has on nice clothes. Maybe the 'really' poor sections are on other end of the country.

    3. Oh how I wish it were true that Haiti were in the position for investors to come in and help bring the country into the 21st century where rich white folk would build homes as retreats or resorts where tourists could come in safety and spend their dollars. I learned from CNN that there were already 7000 UN peace keepers in Haiti because there is not a government who could provide for the safety of the citizens. Remember 'Papa Doc'? He ruled Haiti for decades and was known for his corruption and for the way he treated his own people. The next ruler of Haiti was his son 'Baby Doc' who was as bad as his father. The Haitian people have not had a government that could control the bad guys and provide basic services that a government should be able to provide. If the man who is the president now did not have any way to control the countryside. The day after the earthquake, the Haitian president was on TV begging for troops from the US and UN to provide order because he could not insure order or basic governmental services. The Haitians don't have any real history of democracy. The UN sent in people to watch the election for fairness, led by Jimmy Carter. President Clinton has been a special envoy to Haiti for the UN. His charitable foundation has spent almost a million dollars in projects. He and Hillary have been active in trying to improve the lives of the Haitians for 35 years. It's very sad that the countryside hasn't been peaceful in living history. Using Jamaica as an example, the resorts are gated and there are armed troops with attack dogs. One can't leave the resort property without having people coming to them constantly wanting $$. The dollar is the preferred currency of the country, even though they have their own currency. When you land in the airport at Montego Bay, their armed guards patrolling the airport. When I was there, we had gone there in Feb. It was uncommonly cold there that year and the radio stations told the people that they had to go to work, even though it was cold - it was in the 60s in the morning. A local news anchor went to Jamaica on her honeymoon. Even though they were at a nice resort, thugs broke into their hotel room where they killed the groom and took anything of value. This is a country where the government could provide basic services. Kingston, the capital, is a very dangerous place to go. From time to time, the State Dept. issues travel warnings. Jamaica is the most beautiful place I've ever been. But there are people who come up to you on the street who want to take you up into the mountains to see places like Johnny Cash's retreat. People come up to you offering to sell you grass. Would you get into a car with a drug dealer for a trip into the mountains to see their crops of grass growing while on your way to see some celeb's home? As much as I would love to go back, there's no way. It's appalling that there is such poverty in the 21st century when we have homes, food, and clothing that we rarely keep long enough to wear out unless we choose to keep them. Where would Jesus be if he walked among us? As Miss Linda would say, just thinking or just saying. Kathi, who would gladly have a third surgery on her back if it would 'fix' me. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Sunday, January 17, 2010 1:22 AM To: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] EARTHQUAKE............. 3. Linda, I find it hard that you would even say that these are "false promises" which the United States have given to the Haitian people. I have faith in our government that when these tragedies happen, the United States is always there to help & they do help. That is definitely one thing that you can count on when it comes to the United States. I have no desire to discuss or debate this..this is my opinion & I don't care to discuss this any further. ~J in AZ ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, January 16, 2010 10:03 PM Subject: Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] EARTHQUAKE............. > Miss Belle,I thought the same thing when I saw the three presidents on TV. > My first thought was "and we are suppose to believe three politicians".I > might just be over reacting.I pray this is one time they are telling the > truth. Those folks in Haiti need help ,not empty promises. > Linda, praying for miracles in Haiti > ------Original Message------ > From: Belle Shepherd > Sender: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > ReplyTo: [email protected] > Subject: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] EARTHQUAKE............. > Sent: Jan 16, 2010 9:42 PM > > Hello all, > I have been watching CNN and the terrible reports on the damage and loss > of lives. 3. Belle, I think that the United States is doing all that they can. You are right it's a total disaster & the thought of all these people who are without homes, food, etc. are great. I think what is the worst is how so many people have died & they have made mass graves for them all. I cannot imagine what it must feel like to be in their place. I have seem pictures of people who have had to be held down because they are so upset or injured..it just doesn't stop. I'm glad that they extended the Visas for the Haitians who are over here on Visas..they have extended their Visas for 18 more months. There would be no place for them to go if they had to go home. All any one can do right now is to pray & go one day at a time. ~J in AZ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Belle Shepherd" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, January 16, 2010 9:42 PM Subject: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] EARTHQUAKE............. > Hello all, > I have been watching CNN and the terrible reports on the damage and loss > of lives. 3. Now that scrapbook would be fun to see. Pictures do bring back loads of memories, things which we so often forget about. Yukk, cockroaches, one insect that I can't stand. Mike sprays the outside of the house on a regular basis and within a few days they are inside, but barely moving. At that point, they are easy to pick up with a paper towel, crush and discard. The only time we see them inside is after he sprays, thank goodness. Kay In a message dated 01/15/10 13:44:10 Central Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Yes, Kay, that was one trip which I really enjoyed. We were both burnt out from working & we had gone to the travel agent with the request that they find us some place where we could just go & relax. We took Buffalo Air out of Chicago & that in itself was an experience. Somebody's back of their seat fell off half-way through the flight. Actually, once we got into Miami..it took a very short time for us to get there. Before they would let us deplane, they fumigated the whole plane & any luggage which people had on board with them. (We understood why they did that because when we went into town in the AM...people would have big slabs of fish & other fresh foods out for sale & not one fly or insect was around them.) We found out after we had been there for a few days that this island had very few tourists on it. The most these people saw of tourists was when people came off of ships which would dock at their ports for a few hours. There was only about 2-3 hotels on the island. I went looking for souvenirs & there were very few. I couldn't even find any postcards to send home. I finally found a really nice picture which was hand painted by an artist on the island. I bought that & brought it home & had it framed. We also visited a liquor factory on the island. That was the day that Paul & I had gotten too much sun (we had only stayed out 10 longer minutes than we usually did...but Curacao is right on the Equator. (The temps range from 82-83 degrees but there is a constant breeze, so you never feel the heat.) That day, we had taken a tour bus to go to the liquor factory. I was wearing a dress & Paul had on bermudas. We were fine when we were inside the bus...but the minute we would take a step off of the bus, the heat would hit us & we really felt our sunburn. We were suppose to go to a buffet that night..but we both stayed in our room. We were both so burned the we figured our vacation was over...plus, we couldn't even cover ourselves with a sheet. All of a sudden I got the bright idea that I had brought an after sun treatment that was mainly Aloe Vera. We got up & put that all over ourselves. The next day we were fine. We were on the island for 2 weeks. We did nothing but just relax. We met a couple of nurses from MN who taught us how to make our waste basket into a refrigerator. So when we were in town, we would pick up fresh cheese, something to drink & maybe some crackers. Then at night we would sit out on our patio & relax some more. One night Paul noticed that the leaves were 'moving' around us. He mentioned it to me, but I didn't see it. Later he told me that he had seen some cock roaches the size of larges leaves moving around us. I'm just as glad that I never saw that. I'm surprised that the roaches ended up at the hotel...but I guess the people did bring things that to their rooms...like we did. We had a complete album of when we were on that island. ~J in AZ ----- Original Message ----- From: "jkaywojack" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, January 15, 2010 8:24 AM Subject: Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] Travels.. > Jen, sounds as though you really enjoyed your trip.
