    3. You should talk about it, testify what the Lord has done in your life. 3. We are having rain today and it will go on the next few days. I think Spring willl be announced by the weather and the flowers blooming everywhere regardless of what the cloks and calendars show. We had snow on July 4th near Quincy, California during a company picnic. Quincy is in Northern California near the Feather River Canyon, beautiful scenery.I've driven that canyon road, durvy and scary, no guard rails on the south side, only cliffs and falling boulders on the north side. Very little highway maintence by the county or state. When I had a cast on my leg for so long, I could only take spit baths, I couldln't get that cast wet. I never felt like I was really clean. But oh, the thrill when I could finally do such a simple thing as taking a shower. That felt sooo good. You don't know what you miss until you can't do them. 1. Re: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] hello
    2. I'm sure no offense was intended since I have never made a comment or post to this group. I have read the many posts with religious connotations (as well as the political) throughout the past several months. As someone else said, since I have never spoken then I have no right to comment on past conversations. Although I don't agree, I will agree. I am quite familiar with Jesus of Nazareth. It just seemed odd to me (for no particular reason today than any other day) for someone to say "where would jesus be". Then thinking back on some of the other correspondence making reference to jesus, I wondered if anyone ever considered that some people don't wonder where jesus would be or what would jesus do. I have enjoyed immensely some of the chatter until religion in interjected. Likewise with politics. Thank you for allowing me to contribute. In a way this conversation is amusing in that I was telling a friend about the "what would jesus do" remark. She, being a Wiccan, said she would ask "what would Mother Nature do", then went on to say that we pretty much saw what she would do. I thought this very interesting. Again, thank you for inviting me in. I really don't think that anyone was trying to offend you by mentioning the name "Jesus". Many times the members of this group ask for prayer for what is going on in our lives and we tell each other that we will keep them in our prayers. You have a wonderfully rich heritage coming from a long line of Jews. The foundation of our Christian faith is based upon Jewish beliefs. There are so many things in common with the two faiths, the main difference being that the Jews are still looking for their Messiah to come and we believe that He came in the form of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Simply stating fact, not proselytizing Some of the greatest hope I see is when leaders from various faiths come together to pray for each other, for their communities and for the nations of the world. This members of the Southern Chat group have many "southern" things in common, but we have profound differences politically. Still we can be civil to each other, express our views and agree to disagree on many topics. Please feel free to express your feelings and views and enter into the conversation. I would be more that happy to have any member of this group in my home, even though we have very different views on some things. To me, this is inappropriate (at least to this list) because not everyone believes in "Jesus". One might even consider this type of statement to be an attempt at proselytizing. I come from a long line of Jews but myself am agnostic. It might make for better relations and friendships if the religious connotations were left off. Thanks for considering this. It is great that Clinton and Bush are heading up an aid program for Haiti. In times of crises people put political views aside and work together for the common good. >From the pictures of Port Au Prince it looked like a lot of multiple dwelling housing. It's too bad that it was not more earthquake "proof" (if there is such a thing). But you can be sure that out of town and in the country side, many people lived in nothing more than 4 corner posts and anything available (fabric, tin, cardboard, etc.) nailed or tied from one corner to the other. Even roofs might be a combination of cardboard and tree branches. When we were in the D R, I was shocked at the housing and Haiti is much poorer than the D.R.. It will take of lot of work to replace housing for that many people. Will they have Prefab, quickly built homes ? Will they put up barracks? Will the debris pushed into the ocean make new land and who will own it ? Would NOW be a good time to build it up into a tourist attraction , where the folks make their money off the tourist trade ? They said it was 80 degrees over there....sounds great to me ! More than ever folks from around the world are buying vacation homes in the warmer Countries....why not Haiti ? I'm really amazed at how quickly some things have taken place. Dead or alive? So much destruction that will never be cleared or repaired. So many people without homes. Food, water and needed facilities may be scarce as well. 2. Kathy,I don't think anyone is getting kicked off .I don't know how they would do it for mentioning our beliefs. There wouldn't be much of a list left. Linda,Paula and myself have been kicked off before Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T -----Original Message----- From: "Kathryn Langford" <[email protected]> Date: Sun, 17 Jan 2010 19:46:12 To: <[email protected]> Subject: [SOUTHERN-CHAT] Care for one another Good grief!!! Remember the WWJD item that we used to see so much? There are people starving to death or dying under rubble in Haiti, in our country of riches, in every part of the world. That same phrase has been used here on this list. Jesus would - I'm sorry. I can't talk about...I have always thought that using an example of someone whom one believes to be remarkable gives one a standard by which to judge their actions and thoughts. By the way, my closest childhood friend is Jewish. One of the most important people in my life is a practicing Jew and believes Jesus is the most remarkable person who ever lived and speaks of Jesus with the upmost respect. One could learn much from Jesus about how we should treat others. Tolerance is one of the many lessons...I'm sorry. I better not say anything else. I would express my concern to Emma and let her know that she has one more person praying for her - but I guess that would get me into even more trouble. My fil died from kidney failure after he made the decision to stop his dialysis. He was calm and did not suffer. Dialysis just wore him out after several years. He lived longer than his doctors thought he would. I pray that Emma's family & friends will be supportive of her decision, whatever it may be. I always thought that praying for one another is one of the most precious gifts we could give to another. If we can't express our care and concerns about others, as many faiths teach, I'm gone. One thing that makes this list special is that we do care about others and that we can express it here whereas it would be 'forbidden' in other places. Is this our list mommies trying to wash my mouth with soap? If that's the case, then so be it and I'm thrown off the list. I might be wrong, but I believe that there are many people here who care about others and who are thankful that we can speak of our faith and how faith sustains us as individuals. I can always reach my friends by private email and I can't be barred from reading what's written here.
