    1. MEMORIES OF GLASGOW & BARREN CO
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. I'm batting around an idea and would like your feedback. There are several old historical accounts of Barren Co - Times of Long Ago by Franklin Gorin (written 1870), Cyrus Edward's book published back in the '40's, Vivian Rousseau's, Background of a Bank (ca 1970's), The Allen newspaper articles (early 1900's), Backroads of Barren Co (William Daniel Tolle's writings up to 1920's), and two books by the late Jimmy Simmons dealing with the Civil War and a look around Glasgow. There is a pictoral history book "Barren County Heritage" with minimal stories and a lot of great pictures - and several books by Cecil Goode which deal primarily with the early days also. C Clayton Simmon's Historical Trip Through Barren Co fills in a few more gaps. But - there isn't a book of remembrances by people who lived here. Stories of their family (not particularly genealogical but can be included briefly) ... but the every day lives. Storms they survived, how the Great Depression or the wars affected the family; old automobiles that the family owned; church memories - the oral tradition type of stories. Robberies, ghost stories, occupations, school memories, epidemics, pets, funny stories, sad stories ... anything that would preserve the everyday life of our citizens. Stories that you remember your parents or grandparents telling you. I'm thinking of putting together a book like this if I can get enough information. The contributor doesn't have to live in Glasgow or Barren Co, but have family from here who just have stories they'd like to preserve. I will be putting a notice in the fall issue of Traces (the quarterly of the historical society here) also to pull in information. Would any of you be interested in sending along tales? The contributor would be given full credit for their stories with their name - address by permission only (if you want to remain anonymous.) If you have a story, or interest in submitting a story, please write me PRIVATELY, not to the list as that could generate a LOT of email that some won't be interested in wading through. Let me know - was just thinking on a Friday!
