John RENFRO appeared, no date shown, recorded Book 5, p. 170. No details at all, he was approved for pension. Benjamin MARTIN is recorded on the same page and was approved. The next applicant's information was very detailed - John ELMORE. Recorded Order Book 5, p. 164.At date of application he was 73 yrs old; entered the service in the VA Militia for 3 months. Marched to Petersburg VA where he served 11 days; was discharged and went home to Lunenburg Co where he lived. Cannot remember names of commanding officers. He then moved with his father to Orange Co and was drafted for 3 months service with the NC Militia. He was in the Battle of Guilford and Etaw Springs; commander was Col PALMER. He was afterwards hired as a substitute for a man whose name he has forgotten; was told by his commanding officer that if he would furnish himself a horse, bridle, saddle and rifle he would only have to serve 2 mmnths of the 3. He furnished same. Afterwards he was drafted b the NC Militia for 3 more months; marched to Hillsboro NC and served 2 months guarding the General Assembly there at Hillsboro; discharged. He cannot remember the commanding officers' names. He has no documentation, lost his discharges Testimony taken of Rev. Andrew NUCKOLS and Abner ACRES who attested that they were well acquainted with ELMORE; belive him to be 73 years of age, believed he did serve. Then ELMORE was questioned and gave the following answers: Born 22 Oct 1758 in Lunenberg Co VA. No existing records to prove his birth. Was drafted when living in Orange Co NC. After service moved to York Co SC, then to Barren Co where he has lived for the past 26 yrs. Officers he could remember that he served under: Genl Green PARMOR, Capt GEYER, Capt HODGE, Genl MALBERY. Received one discharge from Genl MALBERRY [spelled both ways) who was a Frenchman - lost it. named witnesses in his neighborhood who could attest for him: John CARVER, James THOMPSON Sr, Allen BRADSHAW, Seth BRADSHAW, John L WOODSON, Martin BUTTON, Martin PRYOR, Jos. LEWIS, Elisha CARVER, Jesse CURD, George DAVIS and others. Certified 7 June 1932 by County Clerk.
