    3. Hi Omigene! Many "thank yous" for the information on Belle and Hise Gearlds. I did some looking around in censuses and found them in both 1910 and 1920 Monroe, Center Point on the Elbow Rd. In 1900 Monroe I found a Hice Gearlds, age 22, living at John F. and Lucie Coe's place working as a "workhand". BUT, there is also a 1900 entry in Center Point for Mary FitzGearls, age 69, widow, mo-in-law Hice " age 22, single, bro-in-law, day labor These two folks are living with Corro (?), Thomas, HOH and Lucie A., age 26, wife and their children. All of them were b. KY-KY-KY. Back in 1880 there is a J. R. Fitzgerald and wife, Elizabeth with 8 children, including the youngest, Hice, age 4. He was the only Hice/Hise I could find in 1880 Monroe Co. so I want to believe that it's the right family. I've been a little mystified for some time when I'd run across Fitzgeralds, Geralds, Gearlds, etc. and other variations of the name who all looked to be the same family. I've seen a lot of name changes in my short time at this, but I'd love to know how you drop an entire syllable, especially one at the beginning of the name! <G> If anyone out there knows whether the above census information is the Hise that married Belle Head, I'd appreciate hearing from you. I suppose it's also possible that Hise was enumerated twice.........it's happened before.
