Sandi March 15, 1879 Resolved that Brethern E. Dickey, L. A. Downer, Dr. W. E. Garnett, Baker Hatcher and William Neville be and are hereby appointed a building committee with instructions and power to raise the means and superintend the erection of a suitable meeting house for the use of the Cave City Baptist Church on the most convenient and eligible lot that can be procured in Cave City; all subscriptions for said house to be paid Bro. E. Dickey as treasurer nd paid out by him as said committe may direct. For the purpose of building a Baptist Meeting House in Cave City, we the subscribers, hereby promise and obligate ourselves to pay the several amounts annexed to our names whenever the sum of $600.00 is subscribed; said subscriptions to be paid to a building committee of five appointed by the cave City Baptist Church. Hatcher, $10.00; Gardner & Oster, $25.00; H. S. Showdy, $5.00; E. O. Wilcoxson, $1.00; F. McCown, $2.00; R. J. Sublett, $2.50. Special Subscription for Church Lot: E. Dickey, $9.00; J. C. Walton, $5.00; D. M. Porter, $5.00; R. J. Leavell, $2.50; James P. Nevell, $2.50; J. T. Brady, $1.00. A commodious frame building was erected upon the lot where the present building now stands. In 1889 this frame structure was struck by lightning and destroyed by fire. In 1890, a brick building was erected to take its place and still stands. The later building was remodeled in 1925. Mr. Elkanah Dickey planted the trees in the Baptist Church yard. Mr. D. T. Curd planted the large elm in the front yard at the school building, bringing it on his shoulder from near Flint Knob.
