    3. Jennie PINCKLEY was brought home 4 May after 4 months in a Louisville Hospital with a broken limb. Mrs Paul GILL is recovering from the flu. Hall GRAVES recently moved to rooms in the home of Herbert CONDRA. Mrs Blanch GARMON is very sick at her home on 5th St. Mrs. Eva JONES of Burkesville is spending the week with her boys, Oakley and Johnny. Miss Anna Laura LEECH , sister of Brice LEECH of Glasgow for the past 2 yrs has been a resident of Ashville NC for her health; is visiting relatives and friends in and around Glasgow; stopped in T'ville to visit Benjamin KIRKPATRICK. A new girl at Mr & Mrs Tom WALDEN's, born May 5th, named Bessie Oveil. Ralph RUSH, son of Mr & Mrs Charlie RUSH of Hestand is in training in a radio school at the US Navasl Air Station in Norfolk VA. Miss Ree WALDEN returned home after spending a week with her brother, Mr and Mrs Tom Walden at Rock Bridge. Mr & Mrs L R RUSH visited their daughter Mrs Chas PATTERSON of Louisville Sun & Mon. Mrs M T PHEMISTER Mrs. Mary FERGUSON and Mrs. T A HAGAN visited Mammoth Cave & Great Onyx Cave. Miss Julia DEARING, Glasgow, visited her siter, Miss Virginia DENHAM of T'ville during the week. Aunt Jane BEDFORD, "colored" of Forkton KY celebrated her 100th birthday 10 May. Born in Monroe Co 10 May 1840, has lived in the county all her life. Owned as a slave by Bennett BEDFORD on Cumberland River; lived near Forkton for past 60 years. Two living children: Mrs Doe BAILEY and Minnie LANDFORD, latter lives with her. Able to cook and sew, just made a dress for herself. Mind is clear, can tell time with a wristwatch & thread a needle without glasses. She said her master never beat her but was very good to her; but she has seen slaves stripped to the waist and beaten. She remembers clearly the shock caused by the news that Abe LINCOLN had been shot and can talk about the Civil War. Joined the Missionary Baptist Church (white) about 60 yrs ago, baptized by Rev. Flem CHILDRESS, still a member of the same church. Said "I am not a Democrat." Her mother, Lou EVANS, died about 35 years ago at the age of 109 and has heard her mother tell of holding Abe Lincoln on her lap when he was a small child at or near Center Point KY; She smokes a pipe, talks of the old times and seems to really enjoy herself when her many friends white and colored go to see her.
