Sandi introduced you all to the KY Vital Records Project site, below. I've got to share the lion's share of the credit - Sheryl Slaughter and an army of volunteers have made and continue to make this project a reality. There's now over 56,000 death records available - and soon we'll begin adding some pre-1911 birth records. You can get information about volunteer opportunities by clicking on the "volunteer" link on the left hand side of the page. (We're always on the lookout for help. <grin>) Sherri -----Original Message----- From: Sandi Gorin [mailto:sgorin@glasgow-ky.com] Sent: Monday, February 06, 2006 9:19 AM To: SOUTH-CENTRAL-KENTUCKY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [SCKY] IN CLOSING MONDAY 6 FEB 2006 - PUZZLER & SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT Good Monday morning listers .... it's looking and feeling more like winter in beautiful south central KY! As a little reminder; I'm sure a lot of you have lost your "welcome letter" when you joined the list(s). If you change email addresses, it doesn't do any good to write a letter to rootsweb and ask them to change your address. You're "talking" to a robot computer which understands a mere two words - subscribe and unsubscribe. So - to change your email address you need to unsubscribe at your old address and then, with a separate email, subscribe at your new address. Both emails go to either: SOUTH-CENTRAL-KENTUCKY-L-REQUEST@rootsweb or KYBARREN-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com depending which list you're subscribed to. Just put the word unsubscribe or the word subscribe in the body of the email depending on which option you're seeking. Charlie has posted the puzzler for this week. If you'd like to give it a try, click on the URL in my signature line called gensoup and give it a try! There is a site I'm hoping you will visit soon, I think you'll like it.! Go to: http://kyvitals.com/vis/search/search_death_recs.php This is the Kentucky Vital Records Project hosted by rootsweb with many volunteers working feverishly, and with our own Sherri Hall doing a LOT of work! At this site is being posted Kentucky death certificates; over 54,000 are already on file - with a copy of the actual certificate. One can search on a particular name in a certain county, or all counties. It is not possible to search for all the deaths in a particular county however. When you load the page, you type in the name and when you are taken to the page with that surname, you will see, in the far right corner a "yes" or "no". If it says yes, that means that the actual death certificate has been scanned and uploaded for your viewing. If it says no, the basic information for that individual is shown, but no certificate. More certificates are being added constantly so keep checking back please! This is absolutely wonderful and my thanks for all those working so hard to make these records available for us!! See you tomorrow!
