The headline for this issue is "Schools To Integrate." Board Calls for Cooperation of Citizens in Orderly Transition. Integration scheduled for T'ville and Gamaliel High Schools and the Fountain Run Graded School beginning with the 1963-4 term in August. "It is the responsibility of all the citizens of the County to see that no untoward or disgraceful incidents take place when our schools open the doors to boys and girls of the Negro race next fall:. "It is by a well-known and highly-discussed decision of the United States Supreme Court, made several years ago, that the State Board of Education has made the recommendations today adopted by the County Board. Such a course is inevitable, and the County Board can see no wisdom in further evading the issue." Supt Darrel CARTER said that a salary would be paid (amt listed) for transportation of Negro students from Fountain Run to Ralph Bunche High School at Glasgow. Seven Monroe County Negro students attend Lincoln Ridge High School near Shelbyville. The article deals with the costs, the savings, the payment for buses an drivers. No students are named from Fountain Run to Bunche School. Sandi SCKY Links: http://www.public.asu.edu/~moore/Gorin.html GGP: http://ggpublishing.tripod.com/
