Covering Jacket: Walter TIFFANY, private CT line for 3 yr. Inscribed on rolls of West TN at $8 per month to begin 3 Aug 1819 and certificate of pensiosn issued 2 Oct 1819. Transferred to KY 29 Dec 1825. Osee Tiffany, wife and widow of Walter, inscribed on Roll at $100 per yr beginning 4 Mar 1836. Certificate of Pension issued 16 Dec 1938. On 6 Apr 1855 when Osee Tiffany applies for bounty land she appointed her son, Walter C. Tiffany, her agent to receive her warrant. Enlisted in CT at Hebron in a company of horsemen commanded by Capt. Thomas SEYMOUR as a regular soldier. CT line, 2nd Regiment on 23 June 1778. Served 3 yrs. Again enlisted in the same company and was honorably discharged 23 June 1783. Was 16 yrs old when first enlisted. Wounded by a sword cut under his left eye. In the Battles of Norfolk/Norwalk, Poundridge, Valentin's Hill, Stoney Point and Siege of York. After said war again enlisted at Boston for 3 yrs and served the full time after which he was returning to CT. Stopped in VA and was married and returned to GA. Then moved to TN where he has resided 12 yrs. Has a wife and 8 children. The youngest was 4 years old. Has no property except a little household furniture, a little corn growing and a little old horse. About 2 yrs ago a tree fell on him and bruised him badly in his back and body. Sworn before Thos STUART, Judge of Circuit Court 3 Aug 1810. Robert CALVART swore that he was acquainted with Walter Tiffany about 25 yrs and first knew him in VA after he was married; Calvart married a sister of the wife of Walter Tiffany. He had often heard Tiffany tell of his service to the country. He had been a sober man for about 15 yrs, was industrious and saving and has always been considered a man of truth but during the time he was addicted to drinking and less regard was paid to his statements. Allen LESSEN of Bedford TN testified that in 1800 or 1801 he first knew Tiffany in GA and known him to be a man of truth. Robert GUTHRIES gave similar testimony. Wm ORR sworn same. Sworn before Thos STUART, Judge of Circuit Court. 17 June 1839, Allen Co KY. Osee Tiffany, age 64, made oath that she is the widow of Walter tiffany. Marire dhim 1 Jan 1792 in Bartley Co [sic] VA; he died 1 Apr 1826. Marriage bond is in Berkley Co. Walter Tiffany and Osse Dunn, 28 Dec 1792 of Allen Co KY. Mary MARTIN deposed that she has been acquainted with Osee Tiffany ever since she was born; in 1792 Osee was married to Walter Tiffany in the latter part of the fall of 1792 and that Walter has been dead 12 or 13 years. Sworn 12 Aug 1839. July 22, 1817, O M HINON, room 219, 1 Broadway, NYC wrote to the Pension Bureau to ask for the military record of Walter Tiffany "to be used in my application for membership in the Sons of the Revolution.
