    3. CRUMP, Joshua, VA, #30352. State of KY, Hart Co, 11 Sept 1832. He appeared in open court, age 68. States that he enlisted in Bedford Co VA under Capt John CALLOWAY of the Light Horse, 1780; served 2 months. The Lt's name was William CALLOWAY at Petersburg VA, under command of Gen LAWSON. Entered again as a substitute in 1781. Again enlisted in 1782 as a private under Capt. RICHARDSON, substitute for John P CRUMP. Was mustered into service in New Kent Co VA; marched down York. Says he was born in VA and resided there until 1795 when he moved to KY; has lived in KY ever since, resides in Hart Co. Knows of no one who can prove his services except Jeremiah DAWSON. Court examined Crump under interrogations by the War Dept. Stated he was born May 1765 in New Kent Co; resided in Bedford Co VA when he entered the service. Affadavit made by Jeremiah Dawson 9 Oct 1832 who states that he was in the service with Curmp in the company commanded by John Calloway and has been acquainted with him ever since and resided near him ever since. *** DEFEVERS, John and Nancy, VA, W 1834 BL WT 31, 432-160-55. Name also written to look like LEVEVER. District of KY, Green Co, 21 Mar 1826. From Hart Co, made application in Green Co in open court. Age about 73; enlisted for a term of 3 years about Jan 15, 1776 or 1777 in the 13th VA regiment commanded by Col. RUSSELL; enlisted under Lt SPRINGER and was attached to Capt James HOOK's Company on the Continental establishment. Was in the battles of Germantown, Brandywine and Marsh Hill. Stated that his wife was age 54; his children are poor and not able to lend him any support while supporting themselves and their families. John EMERSON made affadavit in Green Co. Said he knew the soldier during the Rev. War and knew that he belonged to the 14th VA as shown above. (At a later date). Widow was Nancy who applied for a pension, provided a certified copy of their marriage from Hardin Co KY. It read: John Defevers and Nancy HUSTON, married by Jonah DODGE, a regular authorized minister, Apr 17, 1794. Marriage license issued but not returned. She applied for pension at age 77 on July 25, 1885 in Hart Co and stated that John Defevers died in 1839. Jersey DEFEVERS stated that he was personally acquainted with the soldier and his wife. **** EDGAR, John Sr, PA, S 30, 395. Hart Co KY, 7 June 1832, age 75. States he enlisted in PA Aug of 1776 under Col McCOY, born in NJ near Trenton about 1758; enlisted in Westmoreland Co PA. Moved to NC in the spring 1780 and resided there about 8 years. Then removed to KY and has since resided in Hart Co KY. His enlistment was in the 8th PA Regiment. States that Frederick SMITH and John DEFEVERS are both acquainted with him and can testify of his character as well as Frederick SMITH of Barren Co.
