Does anyone have records of a family named Regin, Reagan, Rigin, Riggins or some logical variant in Barren County about 1808? I am trying to identify the Betsy Regin and William Morrel whose marriage bond is dated 13 June 1808. The bond is clearly signed Wm. Morrel -- not Murrel -- though I am careful about drawing hard conclusions from spellings. Betsy's last name looks to me to be spelled Regin, though it could also be Rigin in this document. Jessee Harrison was a bondsman. I have a William Morrel who moved to Jackson County, Tennessee about this time. He would have been a widow about 55-60 years old in 1808 so if he is the William Morrel of the bond, it was most likely a second marriage for both people. Betsy might be the widow of a Regin. ( I have seen a printed record of the marriage of Wm. Morrel to Patsy Riggin on Jan 4, 1807 but I have not found documentation of that date or first name.) As to William Morrel, I am aware of the family of Samuel and Susannah Murrel in Barren County that includes a William Murrell whose marriage bond to Nancy Nunnally is dated 5 November 1832. For the record, the signatures on the two bonds are completely different. I would very much appreciate help with these families. John Newton Morrel morcor@comcast.net
