This Fall I am teaching a section of the first semester calculus course at ASU. A young lady stopped by my office after the first test to seek my help. "Why did I do so poorly", she asked. After looking at her test paper, I suggested that she was not prepared for the course and should drop back to the algebra and trig course. She thought about it, but decided to stay with the calculus course. "If I work hard", she said, "I may be able to pass. It won't kill me to try!" She might not have been so bold had she known of the fate of poor Henry Donaldson. The link below will take you to a page from the Warren Co mortality schedule of 1880. On line 28 you will find young Henry Donaldson, who died in March 1880. Please note the cause of death. http://www.public.asu.edu/~moore/files/Census/mortality1880.jpg Doug Moore -- |==================================================================| | J.Douglas Moore Mathematics.. http://math.asu.edu/~moore/home | | moore@asu.edu Genealogy.... http://www.public.asu.edu/~moore | |==================================================================| | Math Department Office: (480)965-3720 HOME: | | Arizona St. U.
