I just wanted to take a minute and update you on the progress of migrating all the rootsweb lists; it has been rather a confusing time but we're all muddling through. Since many of you are on my other lists, I'll cover them too. KYBIOGRAPHIES was migrated safely. However, until rootsweb gets the time, this "closed list" (not open to queries) has to be moderated so it is not overwhelmed with queries or spam. Once I make a post and send it out, I must go to the administsration pages for the list and "release" the email to the list. This list no longer requires the -L in the address which I had to do temporarily during the switch. KYRESEARCH was migrated safely. Same thing as above. Thank you also for all the kind words on my current series of posts on 20 Lessons Genealogists Need to Know ... this seems to be hitting home with a lot of us! KYBARREN was migrated safely. It no longer requires the -L in the name when you make a post to the list. The KYBARREN board is still "gatewayed" to the list meaning that when one makes a post to the board, it is automatically posted to the list also. Sometimes this does not work and I need to go to the administration site for the list and release the email so it will go to the list. SOUTH-CENTRAL-KENTUCKY was supposed to be switched over on the 6th, but due to the holiday and fixing problems, this migration has been delayed now until the 11th. I'm hoping there will be no problems with it! After the migration, it will not be necessary for any of us to put the -L in the address (which was just temporary during this transition). I have set, on the administration side, the maximum number of "bounces" before one is removed from the list at 5. This means if an email is refused by your server because of various problems 5 times, you will be unsubscribed. This can include things like your mailbox being full, closed accounts, temporary glitches, etc. I set it at 5 (it was set at 4 previously) which hopefully will catch temporary problems which will be solved before your name is removed from the list. Digest vs list mode. As you know, you can subscribe to any rootsweb list in two modes - either digest or list. Digest means that you will receive fewer posts with several emails in one post, rather than receiving each post as it is made. On the list format - you receive the posts as they are sent. Sometimes, in this migration, some have been changed accidentally from one mode to the other. If you are now receiving posts in list mode where you subbed in digest mode or vice versa, let me know and I will switch you back (on all but the SCKY list which hasn't been migrated yet). I think that covers it - for now! There are always problems in such a massive conversion (many of you have worked in the computer/programming field and know this!), but all in all, I think this has gone smoother than I anticipated. No posts tomorrow on Friday so I wish you all a great weekend and if you haven't tried your hand at the puzzler for the week, try it! The response has been very low this week during a long holiday.
