Events recorded 28 Oct 1954 include: Mr & Mrs Glen TOOLEY were notified by the War Departent that their son, Airman 1/C Earl F TOOLEY was missing in action. He was on a routine mission from Rome Italy to Lyon, France. 21 people were aboard this transport. He has been station at Manton AFB in England for past 2 years; in the service for 2 1/2 yrs. A 2nd telegram received by the family Wednesday read that the search conducted for their son was negative. They were searching over water and land by 3 American and 4 British vessels and 34 aircraft carriers; local weather was favorable for the search in the mountainous region. Albert CARLOCK called by death. Services conducted at the Tompkinsville Baptist Church Wed afternoon; he died 25 Oct 1954 at the age of 69. His death was a complete surprise to family and friends as he had only been sick a few hours. Survivors included one daughter; Mrs Hascal HAGAN; one son, Carlos CARLOCK; one brother, W D CARLOCK. Services were conducted by Revs. C E CARTER, Garnet MARTIN & Allen STEELMAN. Obtained a teacher's life certificate in 1935 and graduated Western State College with a BS degree in 1943. One yr of teaching in a rural school, then to University of Louisville School of Medicine - received MD degree in 1943. 1-yr internship in the Missouri Baptist Hospital in St Louis; 1 yr surgical residency at same. U S Army entry 1945 as 1st LT; assigned to Army Medical Field Service School at Carlisle barracks PA for basic. Then assignments included Baxter General Hospital in Spokane WA nd Mitchell Convalescent Hosital in Southern CA. Transferred overseas in early 1946 and assigned to surgical service of the 112 Evacuation Hospital in Degerndorf, Germany, later assigned to the 57th Field Hosital. Promoted to Captain and served as acting chief of Surgery until his return to the states in 1947. In 1945 at Couer d'Alene, Idaho married Olive Katherine CONOVER of LIncoln NB, great-granddau of the late John D EMBERTON of T'ville. Four children: Mary Katherine, John Ewing, James Neal & Jane SMITHWYCK. Member Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge, Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, director of the Lions Club. Married in 1931 to Kathleen BRADSHAW, d/o Dr and Mrs Beverly L BRADSHAW of T'ville. AB degree at Western KY State College in 1934; taught & coached T'ville high school basketball team 1932, 1933 and 1934. Graduated Univeristy of TN Medical School 1937, interned at U S Marine Hospital and Chicago Maternity Center. In 1940 entered private practice in T'ville; in Aug 1942 volunteered for the Army. Served 42 months with 38th Infantry Div in southern states, Hawaii, New Guinea and Leyte and Luzon of the Phillipines. Awarded Combat Medical Badge for undergoing hardships of the infantry in combat; Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. In general practice since the end of the war. Chairman of the Republican Party and Monroe Co Board of Education; Secretary of the Monroe Co Medical Society, a Lion, Mason, member Board of Health, Baptist. Dr William Ralph BUSHONG (photo), attended school at Mt Gilead, graduated T'ville High School 1938 where he participated in football, basketball and baseball. AtendedWestern Ky State College in Bowling Green, graduated with a BS. Member there of the ROTC and the Peshing Rifle National Fraternit; vice-president of the Jr class. Volunteered for Army services late in 1942; attended Tank Destroyer OCS at Camp Hood TX; received his commission as 2nd Lt June 1943. Spent 8 months at Camp Hood, training A S T P students. Overseas in 1944 and joined the 84th Infantry Division. Transferred to First Amored Division; started training the US Constabularly. Returned to the states in late 1946 as Captain; received Silver and Bronze Star and Battle Stars. Entered University of Louisville in 1947, graduated top third of class 1951. During medical school was vice-president of the Phy Chi Med Fraternity; interned at St Elizabeth Hospital in Covington KY 1951-2. Established his practice July 1952.
