A rare Friday post, but I wanted to update you on the migration of lists on rootsweb. So far, all is going well with a few glitches. The KYBARREN list, KYBIOGRAPHIES and KYRESEARCH lists have been switched over and the SCKY list will be moved on the 6th of Sept. Here are the only differences I've encountered. 1 - you don't need to put the -L in the address anymore when posting which was the way all but the Barren Co list was set up in the first place. The Barren Co list required the -L, but no longer does. The SCKY list will still require the -L until this list is migrated. 2 - On Research and Bios: These are read-only lists which means these lists do not take queries. At the present time, rootsweb hasn't devised a way to keep these closed to posting so I am handling it from this end on a temporary basis. When I make the daily bio post or the weekly tips post, I have it set as "emergency moderation." This means that when I make the post, it will not be sent until I go to a web site and release it. A little extra work for now, but hopefully this will be changed soon. 3 - on KYBARREN: This is a gatewayed list. This means that when someone makes a post to the Barren Co board, it has been cross-posted to the KYBARREN list. This still is happening ... but .... the submitter of the post is receiving an email saying that they have to join the list first. This is not true. I receive the email and again, go to the administrative tools page and release the email. This also is being worked on but will take some time until all the remainder of the lists are migrated. 4 - Once in a while, while the lists were being migrated the mode in which you receive your posts became changed. In other words, if you were on the digest mode it might have gotten switched to the list mode or vice versa. If you notice that you are receiving the daily posts immediately and want to receive the digest mode or vice versa, write me privately and I'll change the settings for you. This will only have to be done once. If you are receiving duplicate posts, let me know that too. If there are temporary glitches, I'll try to get them worked out! Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you on Monday!
