    3. 26 yrs ago - do you recognize any of these people??? I only have about 3 papers left so am about done with this series. 21 Aug 1980 news. 3 people from Monroe Co drown in car accident. A runaway car carried a T'ville man and two children to their deaths in Knobb Creek, located on Ascoe Road in Clay Co TN Sat. afternoon. Drowned were Dewey GASS, 39; his 13-yr old son, Ricky MUSE and five-yr old daughter, Angela GASS. The children's sisters, Patricia and Sharron Muse were on the bank outside of the car when the accident occured. Gass had stopped his car to allow the children to search the bank for disicarded cans to sell. They were on their way to a fish fry at Donaldson Park in Celina. The girls who survived said that one of the other children apparently knocked the car out of gear; it started rolling down a steep embankment toward the water. The father was also outside the car and tried to stop it; the car carried he and the other children into the water. Fountain Run resident killed in auto accident Thursday night, 14 Aug, 2 miles east of Fountain Run. Larry HARRISON, 37 of Route 2 Fountain Run was pronounced dead at the scene according to county coroner Charlie STRODE. He was driving a late-model pickup truck, was traveling at a high rate of speed; left the road and struck a parked log truck at SPROWL's Lumber Co. He was a self-employed carpenter, a native of Glasgow KY. Survivors include his wife Joyce; daughter, Toni VEACH; grandchild; parents, Dale Harrison of Lovington IL and Ruth Harrison SMITH of Glasgow; 4 brothers, Jerry of Albany, Danny of Ft Campbel, Michael of Glasgow and Robert of AL; two sisters, Sue CHEATHAM of Crawfordsville IN and Nancy MOORE of R5 Glasgow. Services 18 Aug at Hatcher and Saddler in Glasgow, burial Antioch Cemetery. Happenings briefly: Circuit Court sessions end; the clerk as Jessie Pearl CURTIS. Roy SMITH & Keith CLEARY pleaded guilty to theft by unlawful taking, sentenced to one yr each in the state reformatory. Roger SAMSON pled gulty to a charge of theft by unlawful taking; one yr sentence. Ricky COPASS charged with murder and robbery in the 1st degree; found not guilty. Service station damaged by car - a 1973 Datsun slid through the front of HUME's Service Station on S Main St in T'ville. Car driven by Mark WALLACE, 18 of Rt 1 Gamaliel. Lost control of the car which stopped inside the building. Not seriously injured; to be released from the hospital wed. A passenger in the car, Kenny HAGAN, 18, of R1 Gamaliel was not injured; car received considerable damage. Fire dept answered a call on 17 Aug to S. Jackson Street where a 1974 Thunderbird belonging to Truman SHIRLEY was on fire, total loss according to fire chief Charles LANDRUM. Same day, they respojnded to a call 4 miles south of T'ville on Hwy 163; 1971 Ford pickup truck was on fire belonging to James STRODE of R5, cause unknown. On 18 Aug, another car fire on Spruce St in front of the Wash House Laundromat; a 1970 Chevy belonging to Miss DENTON; car was destroyed. Hal ROGERS, Republican nominee for Congress from 5th Congressional to visit T'ville 22 Aug. State Commissioner of Agriculture, Alben BARKLEY Jr guest speaker at a meeting of the Monroe Co Democrat Women's Club on 28 Aug. Open house at the new Stitches, Inc. plant in Gamaliel 29 Aug. Hospital auxiliary to be organized; meeting 26 Aug. Two new tennis courts now in use at T'villes City Park, built by the T'ville Jaycees. Chairman was Ken JOHNSON; Richard McFALL co-chair. Photo of ribbon cutting shows RIchard WALDEN (Jaycee president), Ken JOHNSON (co-chairman), City councilwoman Sue YOUNG, Darrell BARTLEY. Watermelon Festival planned. Co-sponsors are T'ville Jaycees and the Monroe Arts Council - arts and crafts, Mid-Kentucky Region Antique Car Asssociation, local talent, 4-H, greased watermelon carry, etc. County roads discussed - 117 blacktop and 108 gravel roads in the county now the responsibiliy of the Monroe Co Fiscal Court. Kirk BAXTER & Bernard PICKERELL of the State Highway Dept met locally; county Judge Executive was Douglas CARTER. Charles PETETT was at meeting requesting that the Sam Smith Road in Turkey Neck Bend become a state-mainatained road. Charles TAYLOR was appointed as deputy director of Emergency Services in Monroe Co; E O CRUMPTON was the director.
