Reported that news was scarce this week! 16 Sept 1971 - First pouring of cement of the foundation of the new Tompkinsville sewage disposal plant. KY Dept of Child Welfare appointed new personnel for every county in the state: Monroe, Metcalfe & Barren Co - Mrs Judy BAXTER. Mrs Betsy RUSH hired to replace Baxter as child care worker. Betty Jean COPASS hired as juvenile service worker and John L PICKERELL as juvenile counselor and service to the court. Mrs. Frances STOOPS, office secretary. Deaths reported that week included: Addie May (TUCKER) CRAWFORD, 84 of T'ville; Roy Frank GRAVES, 46, of Route 4 T'ville and Jimmie Lee JACKSON, 24 of Rt 2 Mt Hermon. 11 Sept 1986: Monroe Co High School officers: Presidents are - Melinda LYONS, Senior; Beth GUMM, Junior; Gregory GERALDS, sophomore and James COMER, freshman. Deaths reported: Velma (SAMSON) JOHNSON, 85 of Lamb and Rondall ANDERSON, 61 of Rt 4 T'ville. Added was some news from Jan 1971: Grand opening of the Deposit Bank of Monroe Co in a new facility at the corner of Fourth & Main in T'ville. T'ville Chamber of Commerce elected the following directors: Dr J M DOWNING, Judge Ralph HAGAN, Ernest LYONS, Clarence MARTIN and Dalton FORD. Kenneth BARTLEY named to 2nd term as VP, succeeding the late E E MAINES and E H SHORT re-appointed secretary-treasurer. Gary BOWMAN, 1970 T'ville HS graduate chosen during pre-season tryouts for a positin on Western Ky University's freshman basketball team.
