William FIELDING, foreman and the following jury sworn: John ALLEN, Zachariah ALLEN, Thos SMARTS, William HIGGINS, John BENNETT, Abraham TWYMAN, Thos RAGDALE, Wm MANSPOIL [MANSFIELD], Wm MURPHEY, Mathias LEAR [LAIR], JOSEPH ROLSTON [RALSTON], John ___, Sam'l GASSAWAY, Wm BELL, John SANDERSON. James H RICE paid $80 for his services as an attorney for the Commonwealth for 1801. Richard GARNETT paid $30 as clerk for 1801. Jonas GRIFFY vs Joseph LOCK, case dismissed. HAMILTON vs COURTS, continued. John YATES vs George SCOTT, dismissed. Haiden TRIGG, Sheriff, paid $4 for attending a Court of Examination upon James LOCK. Also paid $7.50 for removing ___ to District Jail - 60 miles. Also 42 cents for furnishing LONG with victuals for 2 days; also $4.17 for attending the Court of Examination. Thos ARMSTRONG paid for 1801 (didn't say for what). John NICKOLS Assignee of Elizabeth KAY vs ___, stay of execution until inquiry. CRAWFORD vs ALFRED [ALFORD], continued. David CRAWFORD to pay Thos SMART for testimony, one day; same to pay Robt FIELD, John FIELD. Wm NEWELL vs WILSON, dismissed. ALFRED vs CRAWFORD, continued. Saml ROUNDTREE to pay Robert FIELD for 1 day witness vs Thos PATTON. Court adjourned until next day. 23 Sept 1801, John GARNETT & Will NEVILL present. Richard GARNETT. There is a repeat of some of the entries above. Then: Martin FRANKLIN paid $6.75 for guarding James LONG, a criminal. John MATTHEWS, Jailer, paid $2.60 for keeping James LONG and Thos ARMSTRONG, 10 days in 1801. Also 85 cents for receiving LONG & ARMSTRONG into his jail, etc. John SHAW also paid re this along with Haiden TRIGG. Thomas MIDDLETON vs Saml ROUNDTREE, case continued. GRIGGS vs BURNETT, continued. HILL vs KIRKMAN, continued. KIRKMAN vs SCOTT, continued (2 suits). Joseph GRIGGS to pay Wm WILSON for 2 days as witness vs BENNETT. John CROW to pay Thos SMITH same plus traveling 25 miles and returning vs SKAGGS. Wm SKAGGS to pay Saml FAULKNER for 2 days and traveling 50 miles & returning vs CROW.
