This Thursday night, 22 Feb, our South Central Ky Historical & Genealogical Society meeting will be held at 7 pm, at the South Central Ky Cultural Center. Our speaker will be the charming Jimmie Lowe who will put on an interesting program. Jimmie, who is know by about everyone in the area, is a columnist for the Glasgow Daily Times, author, humorist, teacher ... we are really looking forward to his presentation. There is no charge for attendance, lots of free parking. If all goes well, next month we will have Lynwood Montell as our speaker - he is a gifted author of folk lore, professor emeritus from Western KY University. I have heard Lynwood many times - he has many books on superstitions, hauntings, music of this area, a wonderful book of interviews from the old time lawyers in south central KY and their strangest cases and is soon to release a book of interviews on the old-time doctors. Lynwood is much in demand as a speaker and loves to kid me as a former Yankee who knew nothing about the superstitions of this area! Other speakers coming this year include Scotty Fife speaking on the Confederate Soldiers in the Barren Co area; Joy Lyons with some fascinating updates on Bell's Tavern in Park City and others. If you're in the area - come out and join us! We meet every 4th Thursday night of the month except July (our picnic to which all are invited), November (Thanksgiving meeting) and we don't meet in December. Keep searching for your ancestors - I know many of you are under the weather with various flu bugs and colds - so am I - we're ready for spring so get well!
