I returned home last night from the funeral in Louisville and just returned from the hospital where my special friend is in recovery. Jury seated: Abner BOURNE, John GORIN, Wm RAGSDALE, James MATTHEWS, Hansel ALFRED, Jesse TONEY, Will RENICK, Abram McCURLEY, Walter COURTS, Patrick McMANNES, Benjn GISS? and James SHAW. Found for the pltff and damages. Joseph GRIGGS vs Stephen BENNETT, set aside. Ordered that BENNETT pay John McFERRAN for 2 days attendance and Commonwealth to pay James MATTHEWS for 2 days as witness against MAYFIELD. Robt HILL vws Michl KIRKHAM, cause continued. David THOMPSON vs ABNER BOURNE, on motion of Defendant, deposition to be taken of John GRIFFETH. Two cases re this. James SHAW vs Abner BOURNE, cause continued. Isaac PRITCHER vs H RENICK etal, continue. James HARLAN vs same, continued - 2 cases. James WILLIAMSON to pay Nat. ROUNDTREE for one day as witness. ___ SLOAN to pay same for same vs same. William NEWELL vs WALTON?, continued. Adjourned. Called meeting 16 July 1801 for examination of James LONG who stands committee to the jail of this county, charged with felony. Met at the jail. Present: John HALL, John GARNETT & Wm NEVILL. LONG was led to the bar (in the jail) and on examination denied the fact of which he was charged. Divers witnesses were summoned and examined on behalf of the prisoner and for the Commonwealth. It is the opinion of the Court that he is guilty as charged and he to be tried by the District Court to be held in Logan County Courthouse on the 3rd Monday in Sept; he to remain in jail. At the same sessions, Thomas ARMSTRONG was taken to the bar, examined, etc. He was found not guilty of the charge (not shown what the charge was, but appears to have been tied in with the case above). He was discharged. Commonwealth to pay Moses TURPIN for 1 day attendance as a witness and traveling 100 miles and returning against LONG. Same to pay Bryant TRENT for 1 days attendance; same to Alexr TRENT for same. Court adjourned. Next session 22 Sept 1801 - next week.
