    1. [SCKY] BARREN CO - CIRCUIT COURT RECORDS
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. As I think I've told you, all the old Circuit Court cases that were housed here at the clerk's office have been sent to Frankfort for storage. They will eventually be available there but it will require a trip to Frankfort to the Dept of Archives and Libraries to see them. The late dear Gladys Benedict Wilson gave me hundreds and hundreds of cases that she had transcribed from the oldest of the Circuit Court cases and over the years I have been trying to get them all typed up and published. I have just finished Volume 9 of the series, leaving likely one more book to come. This volume has 32 cases, ranging from 1809 to 1877 (only 3 cases after 1858) and includes land disputes, slave settlements, murder, patent disputes, a problem with a raffle for a watch, a lunacy hearing, fights over horses, bad bookkeeping at a mercantile and many other cases - including a gal who couldn't handle her late husband's children, her children and disobedient slaves. Among the cases are: John Forbis vs Clement Lee; Wm Jewell vs John Crozier; Jesse Thomas vs Benjamin Eaves, Jesse Rowland & Hudson Martin vs Leonard Garmon, Thomas Staton vs Zacharah Emerson, Richard Mitchell vs James Jeffries, David Richardson vs Elizabeth M Richardson, Obadiah Wade vs William B Wade & William Holder, Lewis Smith vs Harlow & Kimble, J B Jamison vs Jno Garrison, Jose Philpot vs John Gum, Polly Threlkill vs Edmunds, Solon Thacker, Lorenzo D Peck for keeping the peace, F F Holder vs A Holder, Malachai Francis (lunacy), John Francis vs Francis, Martin, Bridges & Beam, Joseph Warder vs Warder & Evans, James Whitlow (murder), Leonard Edlin vs James Morgan Heirs, Jefferson Fulcher vs James Gillock, Frances Wheeler vs Rigdons, Jeff Stone vs Rufus McPherson, John Dickerson vs Valentine Dickerson, John McDaniel vs John C Hall, Sebert Wilson vs Glovesr, Ritter, Wooten & Goodal, and M Delph vs Presley Self and the Monroe heirs. These cases are interesting not only in testimonies, but all the known heirs (and their locations) are usually shown. If you would like to see the index of this book, I again will send it to you via a Word document if you will ask - write me privately, I cannot send it on the list as rootsweb strips off attachments to prevent viruses from getting through.
