Then to Petersburg, then to Cabin Point where he joined the army commanded by Barton STUBEN. Then to Smithfield, then to Macky's Mills. Thinks Thomas BOWLIN commanded the regiment. Fom their back to Smithfield, on to Petersburgh and was discharged. Served 2 months. Same year, militia was called out, nearly all in Chesterfield. Went under same Capt, thinks Robert GOOD was the Col. Went on north side of James River to Bottoms Bridge near Williamsburg. British lay about Norfolk on Hampton, when their fleet left there they were discharged. On duty about 6 weeks. 3rd tour was in 1781 under Capt MOSEBY; he went as a substitute for Duby Ellmus WOOD, served some on his own account. Joined army in South Hampson?. Enemy on land pursued them; retreated to Pittsburg and had a battle. Enemy was commanded by PHILIP and ARNOLD. Advance guard of the British and the rear of our troops were attacked about sunrise. Firing kept up until about 12. Retreated that evening to Cheterfield Court House, crossed the James River above Richmond and joined LAFAYETTE in Richmond. Then went to a place called WIlton where troops laid in sevesral weeks and Lafayette sent 2 cannons and fired on the house where Gen PHILIPS lay sick. Col Robert GOOD got leave from Lafayette to take the militia to Cheterfield Co to watch and prevent the depredation of the enemy. Those who escape met at Young SHORT's, the Ensign was Archer WALTHAL. Joined the army again in the lower end of Hanover and marched up town Amherst, discharged. Was reared in Chesterfield Co VA, lived there until about 1805, then moved to Cumberland Co and has lived there ever since. William CHEATHAM in 1832 gave testimony that he had been acquainted with the soldier for over 50 years, lived as his neighbor in VA; served with him. Daniel TRABUE of Adair Co KY stated that he was also a neighbor in VA and served with him for about 3 months.
