    3. Well, as you can tell, I made a post before my morning cup of coffee and you were blessed with a biography for Harrison Co KY which was meant to go to my KYBIOGRAPHIES list. Just wanted to keep you on your toes! I also started a 2-3 part series on KYRESEARCH this morning on the horrors of the Civil War medically with some information on the surgeons and medical conditions found. Next week will be a look at some of the medicines used and what faced the soldier in the way of treatments. Now - I do have a special announcement to make. Before having a lot of problems with my email yesterday, a lady by the name of Margaret Gagliardi <megsgeneo@gmail.com> gave me permission to run a series on the SCKY list and in our historical society quarterly, Traces, that I think will be of great interest to many of you. I haven't had time to read her contribution all the way through (thanks to conferring with my ISP), but what I have read is wonderful. It is a book written by James Bosley CARTER and involves originally the counties covered on this list (primarily Monroe and Cumberland), written when James was 76 years old. It is a treasure trove of information of life ... I'm not even going to give you any details right now but even if you don't tie in to the Carter line (and many of you do), I think his story will hold your interest. I am going to start his story next Tuesday in place of the newspaper tidbits; there are 58 pages thus it will take some time to complete the book unless I feel highly motivated and post more than once a week! Here is a little genealogical information: James Bosley Carter was born 15 Oct 1836 in Cumberland Co KY. He died 2 Dec 1916 at the Soldier's Home in Minneapolis, Hennepin Co MN of arterio schelorisis. He was buried 4 Dec 1916 at the Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis; the son of Green Carter (1808-ca 1843) and Francis HAWKINS (ca 1810-1886). James married 27 Apr 1859 in Boonville, Warrick Co IN to Nancy Eliza Brown. She was born 20 Sept 1832 near Boonville; died 28 Feb 1925 in Minneapolis; buried same; the daughter of Daniel Hare BROWN (1813-1890) and Rebecca Isabella M DENTON (1812-1859) James and Nancy's children were not born in KY but included: Robert Benton Carter (15 Mar 1860 Boonville - 22 Nov 1938 Phoenix, Maricopa, AZ); Frances I (5 Apr 1862 Evansville IN - 8 Feb 1943 Minneapolis); Albert Smith Carter (30 Mar 1864 Warrick Co IN - 12 Aug 1932 Orange, Orange Co CA); Edwin "Eddie" Carter (abt 1867 IA - bef 1916 possibly Shenandoah, Page, IA) and Mary Emma (8 Oct 1870 Shenandoah - 16 Apr 19323 Minneapolis MN). I'll give you more information as we go along, but next Tuesday we'll start on James's story with the spellings shown as he wrote them, his adventures in the Civil War ... I think you will enjoy this and I am deeply indebted to Margaret for allowing me to share this. Back tomorrow - have a prosperous genealogically blessed day!
