    1. [SCKY] PASSPORTS ISSUED FOR SOUTH CENTRAL KY 1890-1920's
    2. Sandi Gorin via
    3. I just finished another book and I really had fun with this one! One thing that has intrigued me are passports. Mine is long expired but it is so interesting to look at those of the past. Here is the information. Passports Issued for the Counties of Allen, Barren, Cumberland, Edmonson, Hart, Metcalfe and Monroe Counties 1890's Through the 1920's. An intriguing look at where our citizens went and why! This includes people currently living in these counties and those living elsewhere who were born here. There are 180 passports transcribed with photos on 94 of them. These include people traveling for pleasure or business during this time frame and lists all or some of the following information: name, age, date of birth, place of birth, occupation (on most), name of father/spouse and his place of birth and residence or deceased, names of people traveling with them if applicable, reason for trip and, on the majority, date of departure, place of departure and ship name. There are soldiers being sent to World War I, missionaries, and tourists. Some African-Americans included. The book also includes a brief history of passenger steam ships in the early 20th century; photos of the majority of ships, a write-up on the ship including military use of the ship during the war, schematics of one of the ships, photos of the interior of a ship, a sample menu and a cut-away diagram showing where 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 3rd class steerage passengers stayed. 93 pages plus extensive extra material as indicated, full-name index. In e-book format many pictures, excluding individuals' pictures, are in color.
