    1. [SCKY] MONROE CO - HESTAND HELP NEEDED
    2. Sandi Gorin via
    3. Edwina Warner wrote seeking information on the Hestand's of Monroe County. She gave me permission to forward her query to this list. She is not a subscriber, so if you can help her, please write her privately and not to the list - she won't see replies to the list. Her email address is: ewarner6@gmail.com. She wrote: I am trying to document my lineage as a descendant of Daniel Hestand, born about 1770, and his son Daniel Boehm Hestand, born in Kentucky about 1806. Daniel's father, Abraham was a patriot in the Revolutionary War, so I am trying to apply to the DAR. Daniel Boehm Hestand's daughter Malinda Hestand Moore was my great-great grandmother. All I need is documentation that Daniel Boehm Hestand was the son of Daniel Hestand and Elizabeth Mosier. Daniel B. died in Clay County, TN in about 1860. He and his wife, Susan Pennington, are buried there. I know the cemetery where they are buried. I haven't had a chance to come to that area, so I thought perhaps it might be worthwhile to have your help. So far I have not been able to find any death certificates for Daniel B. or Susan in TN. I am wondering if there are any probate records for the estate of Daniel Hestand, who died Dec. 31, 1856 in Monroe County, KY. I have just got my hands on the book "The Hiestand Family of Page County, Virginia" by David Trimble, which is very helpful. I also (this may be another project or may flow with this one) want to find out more about Susan Pennington, wife of Daniel B. Her parents are unknown, but I know there were Pennington families there in Monroe Co who came from VA (she was born in VA about 1806), so that is a mystery I want to work on too. Daniel B. was born in Monroe Co. KY, and married Susan there about 1828. I was at a workshop a few weeks ago here in Southern Illinois, and a vender there had a stack of South Central KY Genealogical Society journals, Traces, and I bought them all for a few dollars. So I've gone through them, all from mid-1980's through about 1997, and found a few articles about my ancestors, many of whom lived in Clay Co TN and Monroe Co KY. I believe I have one or two who were in Glasgow too. I know there is a Hestand, KY, and Daniel Hestand had a fair amount of land around there. Do you think you can help me? I am very excited about researching my family tree, which I just started in June, with <http://ancestry.com>ancestry.com. I have learned that records from Monroe Co are difficult because of the fires at the courthouse there, so that worries me.
