Very recently Rev. Jacob Lock's personal family bible has been located, it was passed down to his youngest son George Francis Lock, then passed down to the youngest grand son Columbus B. Lock and it is currently owned by one of Columbus's female descendants in Texas. I thought I would share some of the inscriptions in regards to the Harper and Jett named in the bible. William Harper, son of Hance Harper was born September the _____ in the year of 1793. Margaret, his daughter, was born January the 19th 1816. Maria, his daughter, was born February 15th, 1818. Nanny Harper, his daughter was born, March the 11th, 1820. Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Hiram Harper, was born March 14th, 1825. America Ann, daughter of Hiram H. Harper, was born May [11], 1827. Note by Don; The page is in very poor condition, the part of the page with William Harpers day of birth is missing. Anthony Jett deceased December 2nd 1819 – Father of Margaret Locke, wife of Jacob Lock Senr. While the majority of the Lock family information from the inscriptions we already knew about from the vital records and other various records, there were a few surprises and a couple of questions over dates that do not match up between what is inscribed in the bible versus the vital records we have copies of. The one big piece of information in the bible is the death dates of Richard Lock & wife Mary "possibly Fitzgerald?" parents of Rev. Jacob Lock. Richard Locke, Senr. Deceased April the 26th 1786 was the original transcription done by my cousin who owns the bible, but upon further scruiteny and looking at the entry at a higher image resolution we now believe his death date to be April 26, 1776 not 1786. The ink is quite faded and at first glance it appears to say 1786 but when I view that date at a higher image resolution, it appears there maybe ink bleed through making the 7 appear to be an 8. The 1776 date makes a whole lot more sense when compared to the estate index sale record dated 1777 in Berkeley County Virginia in which everything on Richard Lock's farm was being sold to pay of his debts after his death, so the 1776 death date appears to be the correct date. Mary Locke, his wife, deceased August the 13th 1785, her maiden name is unknown to us, but it has been claimed by an unknown researcher that her surname is Fitzgerald though we have never been able to confirm that is her maiden name. I have been searching for this family bible for 2 decades along with other family members, we had all but given up hope and suddenly it is found! :) I am now searching for 2 other family bibles that could help give more family details that have remained a mystery for decades due to a lack of records being found. But Rev. Jacob Lock's bible is the ultimate find! The bible was published in 1812, the year my ancestor George Francis Lock was born. Donald Locke
