    1. [SCKY] ASSORTED MONROE CO CIRCUIT COURT CASES - GUM(M)
    2. Sandi Gorin via
    3. I have published several volumes on Circuit Court records of Monroe Co. These were "rescued" by the late Eva Coe Peden, Gladys Wilson and I believe Birdie Lutzow many years ago when the clerk there decided to destroy most of the old and dirty records cluttering the court house attic. They gathered as many cases as they could as they were tossed from the attic window to prisoners, placed in trucks and taken to the dump. Some of the cases are not complete and do not show the final court decision. It is such a shame to lose this information! For several weeks I will abstract through cases that were saved. J A BOW, plaintiff vs Sarah J Bow, 4 June 1898, divorce. They were married in March 1896, now live in KY. Cause for the divorce occurred within 5 years before the commencement of this divorce action. Sarah lives in Monroe County. Couple lived together from the time of marriage until November 1896; defendant then left him and refuses to live with him. He treated her with kindness and affections, provided for her needs. (Note: There was standard wording in divorce cases). He now asks for a divorce; Sherman Spear was his attorney. Depositions were taken then of Jack GUM on 4 June 1898. Gum was then 53 years old, lived Monroe Co, farmer. Had known plaintiff about 2 years and defendant all his life. Sarah J. Bow was his step-mother. Knew a little about the treatment of J A to Sarah. Had never heard of any abuse. They separated about Nov. 1896; They had married in Monroe Co; she still lives there; defendant tried to get her to come home but she refused. Deposition of Joe GUMM (spelled both ways). 31 years old, lived Monroe Co, farmer. Knew plaintiff about 3 years and the defendant all his life, is the defendant's son. Couple were married at her house in Monroe Co. Plaintiff did not abuse her or treat her cruelly. No resolution found in file.
