    3. Again, the Court of Quarter Sessions was later replaced by the Circuit Court. Court met on Thursday, 8 Feb 1798 with John SHANNON, John HALL present. James SHAW made motion that an order issue to take the deposition of Bennet LEAR, William BLACK and John BOYD who live in Nashville, TN. In the case of KING vs LUCAS, a writ of inquiry was set aside and a plea of not guilty entered. The jury then entered: John CURD, Geo A SUGG, David HEDGEPATH, James MOBERLY, Henry GORIN, Saml WHITESIDES, Gladin GORIN, John ESTIS, John COX, Geo FRAYZER, Thos LOWRY, John MILLER. Jury withdrew. KING vs RAY. Writ of inquiry set aside, plea was not guilty - continued until next court. Chas LUCAS to pay Harry O'NEAL for 1 day as attorney against KING. Will HADIN vs John HOBBS, continued. WALKER vs LUCAS case. Jury picked to try this case: Bailey ANDERSON, John ANDERSON, Kiason MOBLY, John PACE, Thomas CHAPMAN, Aaron YOUNGBLOOD, Joel SUGG, Samuel SUGG, Pinirod BARTLET, Clement MOBLY, WIll STRINGFIELD & James LOGSDON. They returned a verdict for 6 1/2 (pounds) damages and judgment. Court adjourned until tomorrow at 10 o'clock. Met at that time with same justices present. EADS, assignee of Will ALLEN vs Rowland MADISON, writ amended. Robert KING to pay William ANDERSON 1 day vs LUCAS. Same to pay 1 day vs RAY. Same to pay John ANDERSON for 1 day vs LUCAS and RAY. Auditor of Public Accounts to issue a warrant on the treasurer to pay Daniel CURD 4/6 for guarding James MAY, criminal, for 172 days. Same to issue a warrant to pay Samuel GOODE 18 shillings for guarding the same; also to Henry YOUNGBLOOD, James McDONALD, Samuel COKER (Sheriff) for attending to the guarding of the same criminal. Also to Sheriff 31 pounds, 6 shillings for guarding the prisoner for 9 days. Same to Pheneas COX. Same to pay James STUART 3 lbs 4 shillings for same for 6 days. Robert KING was paid for 12 meals for same criminal and 5 men at 6 per meal. Robt MOORE paid for sending criminal and guarding while he was in jail. E M COVINGTON (Sheriff) 15 pounds for serving four warrants on the judges of the court, two called courts and for attending 3 days at the court. STUART vs CHAPMAN. Jury: Bailey ANDERSON, Gladin GORIN, VIncent ANDERSON, Dennis DURHAM, Saml KELLY, Robert KING, Benj HAMPTON, Saml GOODE, Will ANDERSON, William MITCHELL, Freeman JONES and Adam WHITESIDES. Returned a verdict for $50 in damages and judgment. Deed - ROBERTS to QUEST? proved by James AMOS & recorded. James STUART to pay Joseph CAMPBELL one day (as witness) vs CHAPMAN. Same to pay John CAMPBELL, John NARVEL?. Tho. CHAPMAN to pay Joseph SESSLER 1 day against STUART. James STUART to pay Pheneas COX 1 day vs CHAPMAN and Geo. FRAYZER in same case.
