Let's take a look for a time at some of the deaths that occurred in Metcalfe County that were reported on the vital statistics reports - before the issuance of death certificates in 1911. There is a lot of information that was recorded and, as with all such information, errors could occur. Not all deaths likely were not reported due to the physician forgetting to write the information down; some likely did not have a physician present, names were sometimes not spelled correctly, etc. But it is well worth the researcher to go through these records. They are now only available on microfilm which is housed at the KY Department of Libraries and Archives in Frankfort, KY, but many have been transcribed. I worked off the microfilm and for those of you who have read the old microfilm - some are very difficult to read! Thus, errors might occur here too. If you have additional information or corrections, you are welcome to post to the list. These are not all the deaths recorded. In this series, I am going to give you a little more information that was recorded - this varied from year to year.All were born in Metcalfe Co unless shown otherwise. BALL, Mary E, d/o John & Catharine, born Barren Co, parents born KY, single, died age 21 of consumption 24 Apr 1861. BARNS, Logan A, s/o John S & M E, parents both born Pulaski Co, single, died age 6 months of chills, 16 Dec 1877. BARRETT, J H, s/o J C & M A, born Barren Co, father born Barren, mother born Cumberland, single, died age 1 of brain fever, 18 May 1877. BARTLEY, No First, s/o Issiah & Polly Ann, born Monroe Co, father born Monroe, mother born Cumberland, died age 2 of croup 20 Jan 1875. BLACKWELL, No First, d/o Ben & S O, father born MS, mother born TN, died age 0 of brain fever 8 Apr 1876. B & Bettie F, father born Barren Co, mother born Adair Co, died age 6 months of whooping cough 10 Sep 1875. BRADLEY, Beverly, s/o Jas & Nancy, lived Good Luck, father born Barren, mother born Metcalfe, preacher, married, died age 28 of kidney trouble, 3 Feb 1907. BRANSTETTER, Nancy, d/o John & Sallie HARVEY, parents born Metcalfe Co, married, died age 45 of heart trouble, 4 July 1907. BROWNING, T J, d/o Bennett & Mary O'NEAL, parents born VA, married, died age 38 of unknown cause 13 June 1876. BUTTON, Mary T, d/o Alfdred & Martha, born Barren, parents born KY, single, died age 5 yrs 6 months of acute meningitis, 13 Apr 1861.
