For those of you who did not avail yourself of Mark Lowe's webinar, you missed a lot. Their meeting was cancelled due to the weather tonight in Bowling Green so they tried their very first webinar on line. It lasted an hour and Mark covered a lot of information on marriages - where to find, different forms, where else to look if not found, etc. We were able to ask him question in live time which he answered. He showed on the screen the forms of which he was referencing, gave tips and sources for maps, etc. I learned something that I have been asked a lot and will share. What happened to the bond money posted by the groom's bondsmen if the marriage was not able to be performed if the groom-to-be was already married, had mental problems, was in prison, etc. It was up to the bride-to-be (who didn't end up a bride!) to bring suit against him. She realized the money from the bond fee - less I imagine court costs. If they just called off the marriage - nothing, it was just when she found out that they couldn't legally marry. In KY, the normal bond of the past was $100 of course. Mark said in TN it was $1,250! So, if Mary found out before the marriage that John was an escaped con with 3 other wives (just an example of course!), the marriage didn't happen and she would bring suit against him. The bondsman would have to cough up the money for her. They might schedule more webinars in the future; I hope so. I'll alert you believe me!
