    1. [SCKY] DISEASES IN 1900
    2. Sandi Gorin via
    3. It's Friday again with more weather coming in. Instead of posting from one of our counties on Friday, I'm continuing a list of the most common diseases that took many lives or impaired people in 1900. You can spend time looking up what some of these were - or, I could use them as a puzzler in the future! We need to remember that medicine was progressing by 1900 but many diseases and ailments did not have the treatment needed. The old country doctor was still coming to the home and treating his patient with more basic drugs. Without death certificates issued in KY until 1911, we may never know why some of our grandparents or great-grandparents died until an obituary can be found or some family record. 71 - Rickets 72 - Purpura 73 - Haemophilia, Haemorrhagic diathesis 74 - Anaemia, Leucocythaemia 75 - Dibetes mellitus 76 - Premature birth 77 - Congenital hydrocephalus 78 - Other congenital defects 79 - Injury at birth 80 - Atelectasis 81 - Want of breast milk 82 - Teething 83 - Miningitis, inflammation of brain 84 - Softening of the brain 85 - General paralysis of insane 86 - Insanity (not puerperal) 87 - Chorea 88 - Epilepsy 89 - Convulsions 90 - Laryngismus stridulus 91 - Locomotor ataxy 92 - Paraplegia, Diseases of cord 93 - Neuritis, peripheral, Polyneuritis 94 - Brain tumor (not specific) 95 - Other diseases of the nervous system 96 - Otitis, mastoid disease 97 - Epistaxis, disease of the nose 98 - Ophthamalia, diseases of the eye 99 - Valvular disease, non infective Endocarditis 100 - Pericarditis 101 - Angina pectoris 102 - Fatty degeneration of heart 103 - Hyperthrophy of heart 104 - Dilation of heart 105 - Syncope, heart disease not specified To be continued next Friday.
