    3. Continuing our look at the duel in which Frank Laswell shot and killed George Seaver in a duel in the middle of Glasgow. A P CHILDRESS was Chairman of the Grand Jury. Witnesses were called and included the following: V L PORTER, Will COLLINS, Henry TAYLOR, U PAGE, C T CHEEK, S LEECH (likely of Leech Drug Store on the square), Jos M RICHEY, C A HAMLETT, A(dolph) RAPP (he was a well-known photographer and had his studio on the square), Tom LEECH, N R PEDIGO, Tom CARTER, Ed WILLIAMS, Prof. ELROD, Mrs. ELROD, Cy MURPHY and another Murphy whose first name could be deciphered. There were a lot of witnesses it appears! On 14 April 1887 summons were issued to: W H PACE, Dr. S T PURCELL, W A McQUOWN (he made a lot of the coffins during this time frame), J A MURRAY (this was "Old Reb"), J P NUCKOLS, George STAUB, J F PRICE, J C EVANS, Dr. B F TRABUE, John SMITH, John RITTER, M T PEDIGO, E(manuel) MORRIS, H M PEDIGO, Jas HARTWELL(?), L W CARDAN (Carden), J T WOOTEN, Henry COMBS, Howell BEVILL. On 27 July 1887 - summons were issued to: W L CARTER, Will COLLINS, Henry TAYLOR, Wm PAGE, C T CHEEK, J S LEECH, J M RICHARDSON, C A HAMLEY, A RAPP, Tom LEACH, W R PEDIGO and Tom CARTER. On 29 August 1887 (this took a long time it appears) summons were issued by the Sheriff to: Mrs. ELROD, Dr. S T PURCELL, W H PACE, Col. BEVEL, Hawel (sp?)) BEVIL, Dr. B F TRABUE, A G DRANE, James HARTNIP, F G BYBEE, J F PRICE, James READ, Henry RAUBOLD (had a store on the square), John RITTER, Jack LEWIS, M S REYNOLDS (had a carding mill close to the square), R WILLIAMS, J B LESSENBERRY. Likely the doctors called had treated Seaver and did an autopsy of sorts). An undated summons was issued to the Sheriff of Hart Co for Priest CARPENTER of "near Clear Point." Likely we was in town that day. On 21 Sept 1887 the Sheriff was ordered to bring in Isham LIVELY (black), John SMITH (the carpenter), Ben MYERS, W J BRADFORD, M DINKELSPIEL (business on the square), W W FRANKLIN, David LESSENBERRY, Phil BYBEE, Peter HARRIS, Chas CHILDRESS, Jno REDDING, W F REDDING, W H PEDIGO, Chris DEPP, Geo. W. ROWLAND, Leroy NICHOLS, Miller MOORE, J H PEDIGO, H M PEDIGO, W B SMITH, Thos PEMBERTON, Dr. JEPSON, H. HILL. On 30 Sept 1887, the Sheriff was rounding up: W R PEDIGO, Tho CARTER, E W ELROD, Mrs. ELROD and a Mrs. MURPHY. Then he brought in T R MINOR (black) and Robert DAUGHERTY. Next week we jump up to April of 1888 and people are still being summoned and the trial is growing closer - almost! It looks most of the Glasgow citizens were involved as witnesses!
