I found a family member who had a wife and children in Pickens county, Georgia. He evidently decided to move to Alabama without his family. There he married and started a new family. A few years later, he returned to the first family. There seems to have been no divorce of either marriage. And it was after the Civil War. There was a large movement of population following the War. In Georgia alone, many counties experienced a major loss of population, sometimes as great as 30% or more. Within my own family, many moved from Kentucky to Tennessee or Texas and points west.
