Randy Jobe > ==================================================================== Randy mentions Abe Moore above. I have been seeking his ancestry for decades, so here is some info on Abe. For a long time I have been studying a number of Moore lines in the Kentucky counties of Allen, Barren, Cumberland, Metcalfe and Monroe; but mostly Monroe. Several of these lines can also be found in Clay, Jackson and Overton counties in Tennessee. I have done some work on the family of an Abraham Moore, but have never been able to tie him to any other Moore line. I want to say what I know about Abraham Moore and see if someone can help. I first found Abraham Moore in the Monroe Co marriage records. His marriage to Elizabeth Ford was recorded in 1853 and Abraham was listed (in the marriage record) as a resident of Jackson Co, TN. I have done a lot of work on Jackson Co lines, but I could find no trace of Abe Moore in Jackson Co. Other Jackson Co researchers (including several who work on Moores) had no knowledge of Abe. So I assume that he had come to Jackson Co shortly before his marriage. After the marriage Abe and Elizabeth always lived in the Hestand area of Monroe Co (this is where Elizabeth Ford's family resided). They had 10 children, with 9 living to adulthood. All 9 married, had children and (more or less) remained in the the counties touching on Monroe. In two of the birth records of Abe's children, Abe's birthplace was listed. In one it was Hawkins Co, TN, and in the other it was Greene Co, TN. I have done some (but not intensive) research in those areas and I have not yet found anything on Abe Moore in east Tennessee. The death of Abe's wife (1907 in Monroe Co) was recorded in the diary of Rev Goad, but Abe's death was not in the diary. I presume that he died between 1900 and 1910. In 1900 Abe, Elizabeth and son Roddy were shown in the census in the area where Abe had always lived. In 1910 Roddy was shown living alone in (probably) the same location. If Abe were still living in 1910, he probably would have been with Roddy. I don't know where Abe and Elizabeth are buried, but I would guess that they are in the Mt Poland Cem, which is located in the Hestand area by the Mt Poland Church. Abe and Elizabeth were among the founders of the church in 1875 and Abe served as the church clerk. Four of their children are known to be buried in the Mt Poland Cem. Listed at the end of this note is a chart showing the children of Abe and Elizabeth Moore. You can find a complete listing of their descendants that I know about at: http://www.public.asu.edu/~moore/files/moore/AbrahamMooreDesc.html You can find much more by accessing my WorldConnect database at the URL below and typing in Moore, Abraham : http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=dougmoore My primary question is about Abraham Moore's ancestry. Who were his parents? Where was he born? (Hawkins/Greene Co, TN?). How does he tie into other Monroe Co area lines. Also when did he die and where are he and Elizabeth buried? ================================================================== Doug Moore ====================================================================== Children of Abraham Moore 1 Abraham Moore b: Bet. 1827-1833 Hawkins/Greene Co,TN d: Bet. 1900-1910 m: Elizabeth A Ford b: Abt. 1836 Monroe Co,KY m: 23 Dec 1853 Monroe Co,KY d: 22 Mar 1907 Monroe Co,KY Father: Benjamin C Ford Mother: Kessiah Malone 2 William Marion Moore b: 08 Nov 1854 Monroe Co,KY d: 09 Dec 1915 Monroe Co,KY Burial: Mt Poland Cem,Hestand area,Monroe Co,KY m: Elizabeth Spear b: Abt. 1854 TN m: 22 Sep 1872 Clay Co,TN d: Bef. 1893 Father: Levi Spear Mother: Sarah A Johnson *2nd Wife of William Marion Moore: m: Mary Etta Casteel b: 05 Oct 1873 TN m: 20 Dec 1893 Monroe Co, KY d: 30 Aug 1953 Burial: Mt Poland Cem,Hestand area,Monroe Co,KY Father: William Casteel Mother: Elizabeth Strong 2 Benjamin Moore b: 09 Sep 1856 Monroe Co,KY d: 17 May 1895 Augusta,Woodruff Co,AR Burial: Augusta,Woodruff Co,AR m: Rebecca Ann Rush b: 08 Aug 1860 Monroe Co,KY m: 24 Mar 1878 Monroe Co,KY Father: Hiram Casey Rush Mother: Rutha Little Pitcock *2nd Wife of Benjamin Moore: m: Charlotte Bell Coffelt b: 04 Sep 1861 TN m: 25 Apr 1892 Clay Co,TN d: 07 Apr 1940 Clay Co,TN Burial: Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church Cem,Moss area,Clay Co,TN Father: Jacob Coffelt Mother: Elizabeth Thompson 2 John Thomas Moore b: 20 Oct 1858 Monroe Co,KY d: 19 Jan 1926 Barren Co,KY Burial: Bowles Cem,Glasgow area,Barren Co,KY m: Mary "Elizabeth" Piercy b: 27 Mar 1870 Barren Co,KY m: 28 Dec 1897 Barren Co,KY d: 23 Dec 1945 Barren Co,KY Burial: Bowles Cem,Glasgow area,Barren Co,KY 2 Martha K Moore b: 05 Apr 1861 Monroe Co,KY d: 16 Jan 1931 Monroe Co,KY Burial: Rocky Hill Cem,Bugtussle area,Monroe Co,KY m: Elza (Elswick?) 3. I too am interested in this line, Although not related per se. His wife is a second, 3x removed. I have sent Doug snips of info on this line over the years as I acquire it and have found nothing to date to relate Abe to any local Moore line. I know that's not saying much, but in all the Moore research I have read to date, similar families followed similar routes. This Moore line along with another in Barren line I am interested in don't fit the mold. Also, the Rev. Goad diary Doug speaks of is that of James Harvey Goad. I have pics of him, but my favorite is when he traveled to the John Simpson Emmert farm with a photographer so he could have his picture taken with a man he respected. 3. I should also mention, Doug has good reasons besides proximity for his belief that Abe & Elizabeth are buried in the center of Mount Poland cemetery. (there are about 50 unmarked graves that only a few have been identified) Abe was the clerk for Mount Poland Church as early as 1875.
