Pre-printed form: This Lease, made this 4th day of June A. D. 1890 by and between Geo. T. MAYFIELD & Sallie Mayfield of Glasgow Precinct, of the County of Barren and State of Kentucky of the first part and J. T. GILCHRIST & Co of the second part. WITNESSETH That the said part(ies) of the first part, in consideration of the stipulations, rents, and covenants hereinafter contained, to be paid, kept, and performed by the part of the second part, his successors and assigns, for the sole and only purpose of drilling and operating for Petroleum, Oil and Gas, and other minerals, all that certain tract of land situated in Glasgow Precinct, Barren County and State of Kentucky bounded and described as follows, to wit: On the North by N. DARTER's lands East by Ab LEWIS lands South by PAYNE heirs lands West by E. A. BRADFORD's lands containing fifty five (55) acres, more or less; reserving therefrom five acres around the buildings on said premises, upon which there shall be no wells drilled; the boundaries of which shall be designated and fixed by the parties of the first part. The said second party hereby agrees in consideration of said lease of the above described premises, to give said first party one-tenth of all the oil and other minerals produced and saved from said premises. And further agrees to give one hundred dollars per annum for the gas from each and every well drilled on the above described premises, which is marketed, piped away, and utilized on the above described land. The said second party to pay all damages to growing crops thereon, fruit trees, or the fences. Said second party has the right, which is hereby granted him, to enter upon the above described premises at any time for the purpose of boring, and the right of way to and from the place of boring, and the exclusive right to lay pipes for the purpose of conveying or conducting water, steam, gas, or oil over or across said premises, and also the right to remove at any time any or all machinery, oil well supplies, or appurtenances of any kind belonging to the second part. The second party is to have and to hold the said premises only for the said purpose for a term of ten years ensuing this day and year above written, and so long thereafter as oil, gas, or other minerals shall continue to be found thereon in paying quantities. And the parties of the first part shall retain possession of said land for all purposes not herein granted to the party of the second part; second party is to pay all increase taxation on the land of this lease, by reason of the operations thereon. The party of the second part agrees to commence operations within 10 days on the above described premises, from the date hereof, and in case of a failure to commence operations within such time or a failure to complete one well within sixty (60) days from the time of beginning, unavoidable accidents & exceptions ... Venders this lease mull & void. It is further agreed that whenever the premises are abandoned by said second parties this lease is to be of no effect. The provisions and terms and conditions of this lease shall extend to the heirs, executors, and assigns of the respective parties subscribing thereto.
