Metcalfe County. GEORGE H. FRANKLIN was born December 13, 1832, in Cumberland County, Ky. In early childhood he removed with his parents to Barren County, and in 1860 to that portion which is now a part of Metcalfe County. His father, Jeremiah Franklin, was born March 21, 1801, in Henry County, Va., where he resided until about 1822, when he removed to Kentucky, where he now resides. He was a son of Lewis Franklin, who was born at Norvolk, Va., about 1755, and who was a soldier in the Revolutionary war under Gates, Greene and others, and was present at the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown. He was of English descent. Jeremiah Franklin was twice married; first, in 1825, to Mrs. Lucy Rowland, daughter of Clem Murphy. She was born in 1798, in Patrick County, Va. To them were born Milley (Wells), Lucretia (Toomey), Virginia (Spencer) and George H. His second marriage took place in 1860, to Mrs. Amanda (Hutchens) Ritter. From this union sprang William D., Tabitha (Spencer), Caroline, (James) and Lewis. George H. was also twice married; first, March 2, 1854, to Mary M., daughter of William T. and Nancy (Spencer) Bailey. She was born February 11, 1837. To them have been born Corilla (Feggett), Lucy (Chaney), Nancy (Locke), Virginia (Nunn), William B., George H., Ann, Cornelius, Albert and Mary B. (twins) and Milley. His second marriage took place September 1, 1881, with Susan N., daughter of Thomas and Zilpah (Deweese) McFelea. She was born March 9, 1848. To them were born Zilpah and Clem. By industry, economy and perseverence Mr. Franklin has become the owner of 310 acres of well improved and productive land. He is a thoroughly self-made man, and in politics is a Democrat. He loves his home, and with the exception of a seven month's tour through Illinois, Missouri and Indiana, he has always resided in Kentucky.
