    3. Hart Co: (all 3 Jan 1899 issue) The farmers are done gathering corn, and the yield is better than was expected. Mrs. Cy SWINNEY visited relatives and friends in Horse Cave during the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. John WILLIS gave a social to their many young friends Christmas night. Mr. and Mrs. Jake HARPER entertained quite a number of their friends during the holidays. The many friends of Mr. M T PEDEN will learn with regret that his condition is unimproved. Joe BROWN has just returned from Louisville, where he sold his crop of new tobacco for a fair price. Mr. FIERS, of Green County, was visiting his cousin, Mr. Drewey FIERS of this place, during the holidays. Rev. Solon EDWARDS, of Rock Spring, preached to an attentive audience at Cedar Cliff Church Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Tommie TOMS has built an addition to his home, and he now has the most beautiful residence in our valley. Mr. Toms has a fine farm, and handles the best of stock. Mr. Jimmie CRABTREE and wife, of Glasgow Junction, were visiting friends in this neighborhood last Saturday and Sunday. Mrs. Arnold BURD, after being confined to her bed for several months with a broken limb, is able to walk about her room. Mr. James WANTLAND and son B Mills, of Rockfield, and Mr. Willie BRODY of Canmer, visited Mr. and Ms. E H PEDEN last week. Messrs Sam and Will LOCKE are feeding thirty head of fine cattle delivered at an early date. They will feed a lot of cattle for the summer market. Mr. and Mrs Wm. BURD entertained quite a number of their friends at their beautiful home Monday evening last. The occasion was in honor of their beautiful and accomplished niece, Miss Ida MILLER, of Larue county, who has been their guest for several weeks. The following couples eloped last Thursday to Jeffersonville where they were married: Bob LAFFERTY, of Uno, and Miss Josie HARDY; Mit HARPER and Miss Nettie LOVE, of Horse Cave; Ray HARPER and Miss Birdie KIRTLEY, of Rowletts. They are splendid young people and have the best wishes of their many friends. Metcalfe Co: (All from 4 Jan 1899 issue) Sanford WOODWARD, who has been in Texas, came home last week. Squire B C GREER, who has been critically ill for several days last, is better at this writing. M I N [sic] CRENSHAW and family, the Goodnight section, spent a part of the holidays with friends in this community. There has been a number of weddings in this and surrounding neighborhoods, during the past few months, and the prospects are good for more in the near future. Thomas BALL, of the Sugar Plant neighborhood (where was that?) and Miss GLASS, of the southern portion of this county, eloped to Indiana last week, and were married. They are nice, clever, young people, and belong to the best families of the communities in which they live. Success and happiness to them in married life, is the wish of the writer. There is soon to start in Metcalfe county, an institution that every right thinking business man will be proud of, as it is the first and only one in the county, and that is the opening, at Edmunton [sic] of a new bank, founded by C. W. THOMPSON who is widely known in Southern Kentucky. I hope the new bank will be of great benefit to the citizens of the county and elsewhere.
