Just a short note this morning as yes, I am still having difficulties in getting my system purring again. It all lies in the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit systems (I now have the latter) and two of my major programs not running. I am tired and frustrated to put it mildly. Plus I am having difficulties with dropped signals from my ISP which takes me off and on line. I know many of you are subbers to my KY-RESEARCH list. For those who aren't, just a note that I am running a series from the Certificate Book of the Virginia Land Commission 1779-1780. This is a marvelous record of the earliest settlers in Kentucky as they try to untangle already becoming confusing land claims upon which they had settled - and many times others claiming the same land. They had to prove they were actual settlers by building a cabin (or something resembling a cabin!) and grow a crop - normally corn. These records contain the names of those earliest settlers as they appeared before a commission appointed by VA Legislature; most describe where the land was, when they made improvements on the land (i.e., cabin and corn), how long they had lived on the land, etc. Last week's post resulted in 3 emails to me from people who finally found a record of their early KY resident.
